Madame Web cast

Sony’s run of films based on Marvel characters continues with Madame Web, a film focused on a clairvoyant who must save three women from a dark version of Spider-Man.

We’re less than a month away from the upcoming Madame Web, a film that has already sparked more outcry than excitement.

The upcoming Sony property plays the same hand as Venom and Morbius, using existing Spider-Man characters to weave an original narrative without actually featuring Marvel’s webbed wonder. This latest effort promises to go even further, as it appears to be introducing concepts such as the Web of Life and featuring not one, but three Spider-Women.

With the film’s release imminent, here’s everything we know about about Madame Web.

Does Madame Web have a release date?

Madame Web is set to hit theaters in the United States on February 14, 2024.

The film has already had multiple delays. Madame Web was originally scheduled for a release on July 7, 2023, before being delayed to October 6, 2023. A final release date of February 16, 2024, was announced before the film was moved up two days.

Madame Web is the first of three Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters (or SPUMC) films slated to hit cinemas this year. Kraven the Hunter is currently scheduled for August 30, 2024, while Venom 3 hits theaters on November 3, 2024.

Sony has various other films that remain in development, including El Muerto, starring Bad Bunny, and an as-yet-unannounced project to be directed by Olivia Wilde. These projects are currently undated.

Madame Web cast: Who stars in the movie?

Madame Web features a surprisingly star-studded ensemble. The cast is anchored by Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, who becomes the titular Madame Web.

Joining Johnson are three other female leads: Sidney Sweeney as Julia Carpenter, Celeste O’Connor as Mattie Franklin, and Isabela Merced as Anya Corazon, all of whom are destined to become some variation of Spider-Woman.

Rounding out the cast is Tahar Rahim as Ezekiel Sims, as well as Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, Adam Scott, and Zosia Mamet. Their roles have not yet been announced, though Adam Scott is rumored to be Spider-Man’s uncle, Ben Parker.

Madame Web trailer: Is there a trailer, and how can I watch it?

A Madame Web trailer was released on November 15, 2023.

You can watch the trailer on the official Sony Pictures Entertainment YouTube Channel or on the Madame Web X account.

The trailer runs for two minutes and 56 seconds and features the first look at much of Madame Web’s more superheroic aspects, including the film’s various Spider-Woman costumes.

The trailer was unfortunately not received well. Many fans took to social media to rip it to shreds, comparing its quality to that of a YouTube can film.

New promo videos have begun to see release in 2024, but they’ve had an equally off-putting reaction, as fans were caught off-guard by the suggestive tone of the marketing.

Madame Web plot: What will it be about?

The film follows Cassandra Webb, a Manhattan paramedic who discovers she has clairvoyant powers. With these powers, she can see the future for Spider-adjacent characters who are attached to a great web.

With this vision, she sees the mysterious Ezekiel Sims, who she recognizes as having worked with her mother when she was researching spiders in the Amazon. Sims is hunting down three women: Julia Carpenter, Mattie Franklin, and Anya Corazon, all of whom Webb sees becoming superheroes.

Guided by these visions, Webb must confront her own demons while trying to stop Simms and save the future Spider-Women.

While Sony has kept much of the plot outside of the trailer under wraps, many elements have started to leak out. Most recently, a full look at the Madame Web costume was revealed on an Ocean Spray bottle as part of a Japanese marketing campaign.

Does Madame Web star Spider-Man?

Spider-Man does not appear to be in Madame Web. As Madame Web is a SPUMC film it does not have any relation to the MCU Spider-Man movies.

This has proven to be a point of concern for many fans. The Madame Web who appears in Marvel Comics has long had a strong association with Spider-Man, serving as an ally and advisor until her death during the event Grim Hunt.

Despite this, rumors have long swirled that the film will actually tie into Sony’s previous properties. Many fans are convinced the property will somehow lead to a revival of Andrew Garfield’s Amazing Spider-Man franchise, though this has not been confirmed by Sony as of this writing.
