Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 welcomed ‘Raids’ with Season One Reloaded, a new three-player co-op game mode here to put teams through their paces. Before you squad up and hop in, here’s everything you need to know about MW2 Raids.

Activision’s Modern Warfare 2 is not only a follow-up to 2019’s well-received reboot, but it’s set to be one of the biggest innovators in the franchise in years.

Understandably, for many, Warzone 2 is the primary focus. However, MW2 is most certainly coming for the spotlight with its thrilling-looking campaign and revised multiplayer component.

New game modes, maps, and more are all expected with new annual releases. Raids are another fresh feature looking to shake up CoD’s foundations one more time.

Modern Warfare 2 Raids explained

The Raids mode is a new inclusion for this year’s Call of Duty, with Activision hinting at unprecedented levels of teamwork.

Raids fall under the Special Ops umbrella, meaning we can expect some highly-strategical co-op missions.

December 8 brought us our first glimpse at the mode specifically, with a trailer for Raid Episode 1: Atomgrad dropping.

The trailer does appear to point to a slower, more tactical experience. Raid gameplay looks to contrast with the chaos and high-octane explosions Warzone 2.0 brought when it dropped back in November.

Modern Warfare 2’s Season 1 Reloaded Blog revealed Atomgrad takes place after the events of the MW2 Campaign, Price, Farah, and Gaz search for their missing team in an underground bunker located in Urzikstan.

How to access a MW2 Raid Key

Players need a Raid Key to access the Raid game mode. There are a few methods of procuring a key.

  • Complete a specific Daily Challenge either in Multiplayer or Special Ops.
  • Place within the top 20 in any  2.0 Battle Royale Playlist.
  • In DMZ, use the final extract helicopter with at least $30,000 in Cash.

MW2 Raid rewards

Completing Atomgrad Episode 1 on Normal difficulty awards the following.

  • Gaz: Convoy skin (guaranteed)
  • One of seven items from the Raid loot which can be a player card, emblem, loading screen, or unique weapon blueprint

Completing the Raid on Veteran awards the following.

  • A unique weapon blueprint (guaranteed)
  • one of seven items from the Raid loot pool which be a player card, emblem, loading screen, or unique weapon blueprint

When do Raids release in Modern Warfare 2?

The very first Raid in Modern Warfare 2 went live on December 14 as part of the Season One Reloaded update.

It’s not yet clear how frequently new episodes will release, but a safe bet seems to expect them with major patches – like mid-season updates or the inception of new seasons. We’ll just have to wait and see what Infinity Ward have in store.

That’s all we know about Modern Warfare 2’s Raids mode, stay tuned as we learn more details about it and the game in general.
