New games you need to play in February 2024

Here are the seven top game releases of February 2024 that are worth checking out:

Persona 3 Reload

Release date: February 2

Platforms: PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

Persona 3 Reload is the definitive Persona 3 experience and is so much more than a remaster. Those who enjoyed Persona 4 and 5 really owe it to themselves to check out this game that originally was released on PS2. Since then, the game has been ported to various systems, but Reload finally rebuilds Persona 3 from the ground up and makes it feel like a much more modern title.

Once again, Persona 3 Reload puts players in the shoes of a high-school student who discovers they have the power to summon demonic ‘Personas’, before using these abilities to investigate their parent’s mysterious deaths – and as usual, save their school from dark forces. Persona 3 was the game that began the series’ transition into a popular culture icon and what laid the foundation for what came next in the franchise.

If you’ve been waiting to play Persona 3 or have been meaning to jump into the Persona series, then Persona 3 Reload is going to be the ideal starting point.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Release date: February 2

Platforms: PS5, PC, Xbox Series X/S

Set in the Batman Arkhamverse several years after Arkham Knight, this version of the DC universe sees the Justice League corrupted by an evil force and the Suicide Squad sent in to bring them to heel. Players get to play as Harley Quinn, King Shark, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, and others as they take on corrupted versions of DC’s most well-known superheroes. There are also plenty of cameos from other DC villains, many of them returning from the Arkham games.

The game has faced controversies regarding its live service elements and treatment of some of DC’s most beloved characters – but this is a game where you play as the bad guys, so it was never going to be cozy. For those who love Task Force X, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will hit all the right notes, and there’s no denying it’s going to be one of the biggest releases of February 2024.

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Release date: February 13

Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X

While not as well known as some entries on this list, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden could be a sleeper hit this February. The game is a spooky third-person action role-playing game with elements of survival horror. The player assumes the role of a pair of ghost hunters investigating a series of hauntings in a small town called New Eden, with one of them inheriting ghostly powers themselves.

The game will also feature various choices that can influence the game’s story and ending, lending itself well to repeat playthroughs. While we’re many months away from Halloween, those who enjoy a scary game should put Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden on their to-play list this month, check out our review here.

Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered

Release date: February 14

Platforms: PC, Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X

Tomb Raider 1, 2, and 3 Remastered is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the first three games from Lara Croft’s PS1 era remastered for a new generation. Naturally, even a remastered version of these Tomb Raider entries isn’t going to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the more recent and rebooted Tomb Raider trilogy, but that’s not the point of this bundle.

The purpose of Tomb Raider 1-3 remastered is to relive the origins of the series and play through these three old-school games with updated graphics and mechanics, but while the core gameplay remains the same. Lara‘s early games were simple: you ransacked ancient tombs looking for lost relics while dinosaurs, monsters, aliens, supernatural entities, and rival plunderers tried to stop you.

This bundle is for those who want a nostalgia hit from the golden age of PlayStation, and if you’ve ever wanted to experience traditional Tomb Raider for the first time, this will be the best opportunity to do it. Let’s be honest, though; the first thing we’re all going to do is lock the butler in the freezer.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong

Release date: February 16

Platform: Switch

Mario vs. Donkey Kong is a remake of the 2004 game of the same name, which is itself the spiritual successor to the original Donkey Kong. Of course, Mario too has his earliest appearances in Donkey Kong games, and this new entry is one big tribute to that, pitting two of Nintendo’s most beloved icons against one another, where it all started.

The game plays a lot like a traditional Mario title, but many levels feature moments and encounters with Donkey Kong, which are tributes to the original barrel-throwing ape’s antics from his NES days. Seeing this updated for a new generation on the Nintendo Switch will be a real treat for Mario fans.

The game will also feature co-op segments where a second player can control another classic Nintendo character and team up with Mario to complete the various levels.

Skull and Bones

Release date: February 16

Platforms: Amazon Luna, PS5, PC, Xbox Series X/S

We feel like we’ve been hearing about Skull and Bones for an eternity, but come February 16, we’ll finally be able to get our hands on Ubisoft’s multiplayer pirate adventure. The company originally conceived the game after the success of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, and Skull and Bones has been in development ever since, going through multiple iterations.

Players will be able to own and customize their pirate ship, attack other players’ ships, and engage in some frantic naval battles featuring cannon fire, boarding raids, and a range of other swashbuckling pirate-themed actions. Skull and Bones could be one of the biggest multiplayer games of the year.

We can’t wait to see what the final product looks and plays like when it arrives. The concept of pitting our very own pirate fleet, AC4 style, against other players around the world is a tantalizing prospect. Especially for those who enjoyed similar games like Sea of Thieves, we just hope the game is worth the long wait.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Release date: February 29

Platform: PS5

Following on from the hugely popular Final Fantasy VII Remake and prequel Crisis Core: Reunion, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is part two in the FFVII remake trilogy and could even feature one especially shocking moment from the original game. With the party nearly fully assembled, Cloud and the gang take the fight to Shinra, but a far more frightening enemy is about to make his presence felt.

The FFVII remake series is set in an alternate timeline to the original, and some characters are starting to become aware of this, meaning anything can happen. There are also some shadowy entities attempting to make sure events play out like they’re supposed to – which means they likely won’t, for the most part.

Those who enjoyed Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy XVI will love Rebirth, as it already looks like a much more ambitious project than its predecessor. The game will also set the stage for an epic finale which will go down in the third and final chapter of the FFVII remake series.
