The spinning panda Pokemon is whirling its way into Pokemon Go, so check this in-depth guide to learn how to add Spinda to your collection and whether or not it can be Shiny.

Spinda is a fascinating Pokemon for several reasons. The spinning panda Pokemon was first introduced to the world back in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, and nowadays, the Normal-type Pocket Monster is also spinning up a storm in Pokemon Go.

While several Pokemon have different forms, Spinda is truly one of a kind. In the mainline Pokemon games, the spotted pattern on any Spinda is randomly generated, with millions of possible combinations meaning it’s practically impossible to see two Spinda who look the same.

That has been toned down slightly for Pokemon Go, with only nine different forms available. Even so, that’s some nice variety, offering plenty of different versions of this adorable creature to add to your collection. So, learn how to get Spinda and if it can be Shiny now.

How to get Spinda in Pokemon Go

The only way to encounter Spinda in Pokemon Go is by completing Field Research or Timed Research tasks. Field Research tasks are found by spinning Poke Stops, while Timed Research tasks often accompany certain Pokemon Go events.

On April 1, 2024, you can encounter Spinda if you complete tasks for the Pokemon Go An Excellent Opportunity event Timed Research, though this will only be available for 24 hours.

After completing the Timed Research task you can encounter Spinda in various patterns. Eight of the Spot Panda Pokemon’s nine unique patterns are currently available making this a fantastic event for collectors. The lone pattern that isn’t available is heart pattern Spinda which won’t return until Valentine’s Day.

These tasks include hitting a streak of 25 Excellent Throws in a row, so try to click on larger Pokemon in the overworld and use Nanab berries to keep them from moving too much.

Otherwise, Spinda is also available to encounter as a reward from regular Field Research, which will also usually task the player with landing a streak of Curved Great Throws. Try to spin Poke Stops and find these particular tasks for a chance to encounter Spinda in Pokemon Go.

Can Spinda be Shiny in Pokemon Go?

Yes, all nine Spinda forms in Pokemon Go can be encountered in their Shiny versions with the odds of encountering a shiny Spinda being 1 in 64.

Though these odds are better than most other Pokemon, Shiny Spinda is actually quite rare as getting an encounter in the first place is much more difficult than with wild Pokemon.

That’s everything you need to know about how to catch Spinda and if it can be Shiny in Pokemon Go. For more information check out these guides:
