Can you get Armored Mewtwo in Pokemon Go

Armored Mewtwo is an iconic Pokemon from the anime and its first film, but can you catch it in Pokemon Go?

Mewtwo was technically the first Pokemon to debut in the English localization of the anime, as it appears at the start of the opening. When it finally appeared in the series itself, it was unrecognizable, as it was decked out in hi-tech armor, leading to this form being called Armored Mewtwo by the fans.

While Mewtwo used this equipment to thrash Gary Oak in the Viridian City Gym, he quickly tore it off as he fled from Team Rocket’s influence. Armored Mewtwo appeared again in the first Pokemon movie, but it was quickly abandoned and never seen again in animated form, save in the film’s remake.

But what about the Pokemon video games? Armored Mewtwo appeared in Pokemon Go in 2019, but it was only available for a limited time. Has the cybernetically-enhanced Legendary Pokemon returned to the game?

How to get Armored Mewtwo in Pokemon Go

Armored Mewtwo cannot be caught in Pokemon Go, at least not at the time of writing. It appeared in Raid battles in 2019 and again in 2020 but has not returned to the game since.

The only way to acquire an Armored Mewtwo is through a Pokemon Go Special Trade. This is necessary for trading a Legendary, Mythical, or Event Pokemon.

However, this method comes with some steep limitations, starting with finding someone willing to trade you an Armored Mewtwo. You also need to be able to meet that person in the flesh, as well as pay the Stardust cost for the trade. Special Trades are also limited to once per day.

Hopefully, Armored Mewtwo will return in a future event, but it’s been gone from the game for a while, so there’s no reliable guess for when it can come back. Niantic has plenty of holes in Pokemon Go’s calendar to fill, and a return for Armored Mewtwo is a good stop-gap fix for when something is needed.

That’s everything you need to know about acquiring an Armored Mewtwo in Pokemon Go. Here are some more guides to help you on your Pokemon Go journey.
