A brand new Karate Kid film is coming in 2024, so here is everything you need to know about the project before it hits cinema screens worldwide.

It’s time to “wax on, wax off” once again, with the iconic Karate Kid series set to return to the big screen with a brand new movie.

The original 1984 Karate Kid is a cult classic for many, with a rebooted version of the film in 2010 once again bringing the story back to theatres. However, the 2010 film was unable to capture the charm of the original despite boasting an impressive cast of Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.

This led to the franchise largely being put to bed, the surprising success of the series Cobrai Kai once again bringing that Karate Kid universe into the conversation. In a shocking reveal, Karate Kid himself Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan confirmed that a brand new Karate Kid film is in the works.

Karate Kid release window

Other than giving fans the year of 2024, there is not much else to go on when it comes to finding out when the new Karate Kid movie will be released.

However, it’s fair to presume that the movie will drop towards the end of 2024 given that it was only announced at the end of 2023.

Karate Kid cast: Who is set to star in the film?

The upcoming Karate Kid movie is set to bring back some familiar faces as well as introduce some new heroes and villains into the universe.

Currently, we can confirm that both Macchio and Chan will appear in the new film despite both appearing in separate iterations of the Karate Kid.

It is unclear if much of the cast from the Cobra Kai series will also appear, however, there is a strong likelihood that at least a few from the show will make a cameo at the very least.

As well as this, it has now been confirmed that actor Ben Wang, best known for his role in American Born Chinese, has been cast as the new Karate Kid.

The actor is skilled across many forms of martial arts, including Karate, Wing Chun/Kung Fu, Gumdo, Kempo, and Taekwondo.

Karate Kid plot details

Currently, not much is known about the plot of the upcoming Karate Kid movie. Given the news of Wang’s casting, it is clear that the movie will focus on training a new Karate Kid.
