Steelix is a Gen 2 Pokemon that became popular thanks to its bulkiness and type combo. If you want to use Steelix in Pokemon Go, you’ll need to know everything about it, including its best moveset for both PvP and Raid content.

Steelix is Onix’s evolution and was introduced in Gen 2’s Johto region along with 99 other Pokemon. This massive metal snake quickly became a fan favorite thanks to it sporting the new Steel-type first introduced in Gold & Silver.

Steel and Dark-type Pokemon were that Gen’s main attraction, with some ‘mons like Umbreon, Skarmory, and Tyranitar -as well as Steelix- becoming iconic within the franchise until this day.

In Pokemon Go, Steelix has a pretty diverse move pool, but which moves are best to use? Let’s go over Steelix’s best moveset for both PvP and Raid content.

  • Iron Tail (Steel/STAB)
  • Thunder Fang (Electric)

Steelix Charged Moves

  • Earthquake (Ground/STAB)
  • Heavy Slam (Steel/STAB)
  • Crunch (Dark)
  • Psychic Fangs (Psychic)
  • Breaking Swipe (Dragon)

Pokemon Go Steelix: Best moveset for PvP

The best moveset players can choose for Steelix in Pokemon Go is Dragon Tail as a Fast Move with Psychic Fangs and Crunch as a Charged Moves. As Steelix performs best in the Ultra League or in niche cups like the Jungle Cup, this moveset is best overall.

Even though Steelix has Iron Tail as a Fast Move and can benefit from the extra 20% damage thanks to the STAB, it’s better to take advantage of Dragon Tail, as it can’t be countered as easily as Iron Tail in League battles.

Psychic Fangs can be spammed easily and has the chance to debuff opponenents, while also being a great option against Fighting-types. Crunch on the other hand is a great neutral attacking option for Pokemon that might counter Steelix.

That being said, Breaking Swipe is also a great Charged Move in Pokemon Go thanks its low energy cost and chance to debuff the opponent’s Attack stat.

Pokemon Go Steelix: Best moveset for Raids

Steelix’s best moveset for Raid content is Iron Tail as a Fast Move with Heavy Slam and Crunch as a Charged Moves.

Steelix isn’t the most ideal pick for Raid content thanks to its lackluster offensive capabilities, but it can still take plenty of hits. As such, this moveset synergizes best with a more defensive playstyle.

That’s all you need to know about Steelix’s moveset for both types of Pokemon Go content. For more Pokemon Go content, check our other useful guides below:
