Destiny 2 Undercurrent: How to get grenade launcher, God Roll, Drop rate, more

The Undercurrent Arc grenade launcher in Destiny 2.

The Undercurrent is a meta grenade launcher that many players are desperate to get a hold of. Here’s how you can get Undercurrent in Destiny 2, plus what God Roll you’ll want and how rare the Arc GL is.

Season of the Wish brought with it a range of powerful weapons, both for PvE and PvP. Some of the best examples include the Rocket-Assisted Sidearm from Warlord’s Ruin, Gambit’s reissued Breakneck, and the immense Ros Arago IV Void Auto Rifle.

However, the weapon that has taken Destiny 2 by storm is Undercurrent. This new Arc Wave Frame Grenade Launcher is truly meta-defining, being the first of its type to challenge Forbearance’s previously untouchable throne and even outperforming many of the looter shooter’s best Exotics.

Given its status as an absolute meta weapon, it’s no surprise players want Undercurrent so badly. With that said, here’s how to get Undercurrent in Destiny 2.

Undercurrent is earned as a drop from completing Nightfalls. It can be received from any difficulty of Nightfall but drops more frequently at higher difficulties, and will never drop from regular Strikes.

Alternatively, those who have already received at least one Undercurrent can focus the Arc Grenade Launcher at Commander Zavala in The Tower at the cost of x5 Vanguard Engrams and 25,000 Glimmer each.

What is Undercurrent’s drop rate in Destiny 2?

The drop rate of Nightfall weapons like Undercurrent changes depending on what difficulty you are playing on. However, it can only be received in weeks when it is the featured Nightfall weapon.

Assuming a Platinum medal is gotten, Undercurrent’s rarity is as follows:

  • Heroic Nightfall: Uncommon
  • Legendary Nightfall: Common
  • Master Nightfall: Common
  • Grandmaster Nightfall: Guaranteed (Adept only)

Grandmaster Nightfalls are the only activity that guarantees an Undercurrent drop. However, both Legendary and Master Nightfalls also have good drop rates and are worth grinding, especially if you already have a lot of Vanguard Engrams saved up to focus Undercurrent afterward.

Though they are difficult, GM Nightfalls always reward an Adept Nightfall Weapon if Platinum is reached.

Undercurrent PvE & PvP God Roll in Destiny 2

These are the Undercurrent God Rolls for both PvE and PvP:

Undercurrent PvE God Roll

  • Barrel: Quick Launch
  • Magazine: High-Velocity Rounds
  • Basic Trait 1: Demolitionist/Lead From Gold/Field Prep
  • Basic Trait 2: Voltshot

The most used combination by far is Demolitionist + Voltshot, which not only gives Undercurrent add clear potential but also great DPS and even some utility thanks to the additional Grenade energy granted on Final Blows.

However, there is a strong argument for using Lead From Gold which fills up Undercurrent’s ammo supply whenever one of Destiny 2’s Heavy Ammo bricks is collected. Similarly, Field Prep is a solid option as it improves reload time on a weapon that you’ll be constantly reloading given its single-shot design.

Undercurrent PvP God Roll

  • Barrel: Quick Launch
  • Magazine: High-Velocity Rounds
  • Basic Trait 1: Demolitionist
  • Basic Trait 2: High Ground

Wave Frame Grenade Launchers like Undercurrent don’t lend themselves well to Destiny 2 PvP as enemies can simply jump over their projectiles. Even so, the Arc GL is a decent option with High Ground significantly boosting damage when shooting down at opposing Guardians.

We also like Demolitionist as it grants grenade energy on Final Blows, providing you with significantly more grenades to pressure objectives and enemies alike. In saying all this, you are honestly better off equipping either a meta Heavy GL like Cataphract GL3 or a Lightweight Frame like Pardon Our Dust.
