Are you wondering if Instagram’s latest social media platform, Threads, works on a desktop? Fret not. We’ve got the answers to all your queries and more.

Meta’s social media platform, Threads, has been a runaway success, at least if you take the number of users joining the platform as a yardstick.

Launched as mobile-first, it was the fastest to accumulate millions of users and even took over ChatGPT to achieve the pole position. However, the interest in Threads quickly dipped, and many users abandoned the platform, giving the higher-ups at Meta some headache.

One of the biggest reasons users abandoned Meta was the need for more features. Unlike Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, Threads was available in view-only mode on the desktop.

This is when Zuckerberg-led Meta announced a slew of new features to retain users, and among these features is the possibility of operating Threads on the PC.

Does Threads have a desktop web app?

Threads application

Meta has introduced the web version of Threads. This platform-agnostic version can be accessed using a web browser from any computer, regardless of its operating system.

The Threads desktop web app can be accessed by visiting the Threads.net website. The website allows users to log in using the Threads user ID and password. Alternatively, users can also log in via their Instagram account if logged in on the same browser.

That said, the Threads web app still does not offer all the account management settings you’d find on the Threads mobile app.

Once logged in, you can access your profile, create new threads, search for users, or see who liked and interacted with your posts.

The menu on the right allows you to switch between dark and light modes, report a problem, or log out of the Threads web application. A button at the bottom left will let you choose your preferred feed view. You can choose between the “For you” or “Following” view of the feed, which alters the feed at the click of a button.
