One Piece Season 2 looks likely after Netflix exec breaks silence on series

Netflix exec says One Piece sets a high bar with its success
During an appearance at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia & Technology Conference, the co-CEO said, as per Deadline: “This is a very high bar to meet, to basically take a storied manga and deliver it in English-language, live action.
“Pretty much all the haters are out, looking for a reason to hate you for it. To be able to deliver it and have it be massively popular and a success around the world is amazing to see.”
There’s no doubt that One Piece is one of the greatest stories ever introduced in any kind of medium. The manga’s explosive popularity is impressive enough, but the anime doesn’t lag behind as well. As the cherry on top, One Piece has dominated Netflix with its recent live-action adaptation.
The series adapts five out of six arcs from the East Blue Saga, where Luffy first sets out to sea and gathers a crew of reliable and talented individuals. The vast world of One Piece, the various races, and the goofy powers of the protagonist are all intriguing to look at when animated. However, adapting the same in a real-life scenario is an entirely different story.
The massive success of Netflix’s One Piece has been making headlines for a week now, and the co-CEO couldn’t keep quiet about it. He comments that the series set a high bar since it delivers the story in a live-action and also becomes a global success. After this comment, it’s highly likely that there will be an official announcement regarding Netflix’s One Piece Season 2.
Is One Piece successful enough to get a Season 2?
The budget of Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece surpasses that of the critically acclaimed HBO production Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones has a budget of $14.79 million per episode, whereas the One Piece version has a budget of $17.27 million per episode. The production alone took seven years to complete, and even then, they barely scratched the tip of the iceberg.
Netflix’s One Piece ends when Luffy is about to begin his real journey in the Grand Line. There’s definitely a lot of material left to cover. However, the possibility of a One Piece Season 2 depends on the show’s success, as no one would want to produce such expensive episodes only to end up with a loss.
