Use the stick to prop up the tarp and build a shelter.

Before you can sleep in Sons of the Forest, you must construct a shelter or any structure that provides a safe resting place. The Shelter is one of the simplest structures to create and requires these basic materials:

  • Place the tarp on the ground, then use a stick to prop it up into a lean-to structure. Additional sticks can be used to reinforce the shelter, but it’s functional with just one.

You can save your game and sleep after building a shelter.

Once you’ve built a shelter, you will have two prompts to select from. Pressing Z will allow you to sleep while pressing E will save your game.

If you’re unable to sleep, even with a shelter built, it’s likely due to nearby enemies. Ensure the surrounding area is clear of threats by eliminating them, driving them away, or erecting barricades to keep them at bay. Once the immediate vicinity is secure, you should be able to rest without interruption.

It is also important to note that sleeping also affects hunger and thirst levels, significantly increasing them upon waking. Ensure you have food and water available to replenish these vital resources the next morning.

Understanding fatigue in Sons of the Forest

Fatigue in Sons of the Forest is represented by a moon icon in the lower right corner of the screen. This icon refills after each rest but depletes faster with increased physical activity such as sprinting, combat, or woodcutting.

Fatigue affects stamina, reducing the maximum amount available as it depletes. This limitation can hinder your character’s ability to perform physical tasks effectively, making regular rest essential for survival.

To get rid of fatigue you can even have energy bars, energy drinks, or Guarana berries but the best alternative is sleep.
