How to sleep in Sons of the Forest

In Sons of the Forest, ensuring your character gets enough rest is crucial for survival. However, sleeping isn’t as simple as closing your eyes and drifting off. Here’s all you need to know on how to sleep in Sons of the Forest.

Sons of the Forest is a survival horror game that was initially released in early access in February 2023. After a whole year, the game is finally out of early access with the release of v1.0 which brings in a plethora of changes, fixes, and various additions.

Sons of the Forest like its predecessor The Forest is a true survival horror game as the game presents various resources for you to craft your own tools, weapons, and even tents with. One thing players can do in these tents is sleep and rest is extremely important if you plan to spend your whole day running away from cannibals.

Sleeping in Sons of the Forest is essential for maintaining your character’s well-being and ensuring your ability to survive the island’s challenges. In this guide, we’ll tell you how to construct shelters and understand the effects of tiredness.

Use the stick to prop up the tarp and build a shelter.

Before you can sleep in Sons of the Forest, you must construct a shelter or any structure that provides a safe resting place. The Shelter is one of the simplest structures to create and requires these basic materials:

  • A stick and a tarp are all you need to craft a Shelter.
  • Place the tarp on the ground, then use a stick to prop it up into a lean-to structure. Additional sticks can be used to reinforce the shelter, but it’s functional with just one.

You can save your game and sleep after building a shelter.

Once you’ve built a shelter, you will have two prompts to select from. Pressing Z will allow you to sleep while pressing E will save your game.

If you’re unable to sleep, even with a shelter built, it’s likely due to nearby enemies. Ensure the surrounding area is clear of threats by eliminating them, driving them away, or erecting barricades to keep them at bay. Once the immediate vicinity is secure, you should be able to rest without interruption.

It is also important to note that sleeping also affects hunger and thirst levels, significantly increasing them upon waking. Ensure you have food and water available to replenish these vital resources the next morning.

Understanding fatigue in Sons of the Forest

Fatigue in Sons of the Forest is represented by a moon icon in the lower right corner of the screen. This icon refills after each rest but depletes faster with increased physical activity such as sprinting, combat, or woodcutting.

Fatigue affects stamina, reducing the maximum amount available as it depletes. This limitation can hinder your character’s ability to perform physical tasks effectively, making regular rest essential for survival.

To get rid of fatigue you can even have energy bars, energy drinks, or Guarana berries but the best alternative is sleep.
