While production was halted due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes last year, filming resumed back in November 2023 and wrapped in January 2024.

The release was originally planned for September 6, 2023, and then November 8, but Disney has shaken up a lot of dates for its upcoming Marvel movies.

Deadpool & Wolverine trailers

The first teaser trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine dropped during the 2024 Super Bowl on February 11, 2024, and the full trailer was released on April 22, 2024.

The full Deadpool 3 trailer was much more Wolverine-forward, referencing 2017’s Logan, showing us his full classic costume, and giving us a first look at the dynamic between him and Wade.

Turns out, this Wolverine variant has let people down. That doesn’t stop Wade from being determined to recruit his help, though, and so the team-up is on. Life is a mystery, everyone must stand alone… until Deadpool forces his way into your life.

In the teaser trailer, Wade Wilson calls himself “Marvel Jesus”, references Disney, and is even tracked down by the TVA, an organization that has only appeared in the Loki TV series thus far.

The footage also revealed just how closely connected the Merc with a Mouth will now be to the greater MCU timeline.

Deadpool 3 cast

Ryan Reynolds is reprising his role as Wade Wilson for Deadpool 3, and (as you’ve probably guessed by the title) he’ll be joined by Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

Morena Baccarin in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Baccarin has been in every Deadpool movie so far.

The Deadpool 3 cast:

  • Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool
  • Hugh Jackman as Wolverine
  • Morena Baccarin as Vanessa
  • Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox
  • Owen Wilson as Mobius
  • Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova
  • Karam Soni as Dopinder
  • Leslie Uggams as Blind Al
  • Stefan Kapicic as Colossus
  • Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead
  • Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio
  • Rob Delaney as Peter
  • Jennifer Garner as Elektra

In addition to Reynolds, Morena Baccarin is returning from the first two Deadpool movies as Wade’s charming and funny wife, Vanessa.

Karan Soni and Leslie Uggams are returning as Dopinder and Blind Al. Stefan Kapicic is back as Colossus, while Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio also return. The trailer also gave us a glimpse of another familiar face, with Rob Delaney playing X-Force member Peter once again.

One notable addition is The Crown’s Emma Corrin, who will play the villain, Cassandra Nova.

Elektra will be involved thanks to Jennifer Garner, who played the character in the early 2000s. There are rumors she could be joined by Ben Affleck’s Daredevil and Channing Tatum’s Gambit but these are unconfirmed.

Mobius’ (Owen Wilson) small role could also signal Cable’s potential appearance, as he has long been an enemy of the TVA.

Mobius’ good friend, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), played it coy when asked if he would pop up in the new movie. “I don’t know, and if I did… I might not be allowed to tell you,” he said. “Marvel is correctly protective of their information.”

The main TVA agent appears to be Paradox, played by Succession’s Matthew Macfadyen. He has a huge part in the trailer, and could well be the secondary antagonist to Wade, making life difficult for the anti-hero, until Cassandra shows up and causes more chaos.

Zazie Beetz will not return as Domino.

Finally, there’s talk of Daniel Radcliffe appearing in a secret cameo, though that is pure speculation. Could he finally make those fan-casting dreams come true by playing a variant of Wolverine — Patch, perhaps?

Deadpool & Wolverine plot

Deadpool & Wolverine will see the Merc with a Mouth crashing through different timelines and finding himself in the MCU, with a little help from Wolverine.

Wade finds Logan hiding out at a bar.

First off, Deadpool will be fully integrated into the MCU, with the TVA from the Loki Disney+ series recruiting the anti-hero to help bring balance to the cinematic universe.

If you’re wondering how Wolverine is alive, this one is different than the one we saw in Logan or the 2000s X-Men — he’s a variant.

Many fans believe the movie will be a loose adaptation of the ‘Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe’ storyline, with Owen Wilson’s Mobius and the TVA pursuing the masked assassin through different timelines as he causes all sorts of bloody chaos.

Deadpool & Wolverine age rating

Despite Deadpool now falling under the Disney umbrella, Deadpool 3 is R-rated and won’t need to dial anything back.

This is a version of Logan we haven’t met.

Director Levy has been committed to that R-rating from day one.

Deadpool & Wolverine’s running time

The film’s running time is 127 minutes, or 2 hours and 7 minutes, according to AMC Theaters’ listing.

Will Deadpool & Wolverine be on Disney Plus?

Deadpool & Wolverine will be released exclusively in theaters at first, but it will be on Disney Plus months later.

The streaming release will all depend on how financially successful the third movie is at the box office, but it’ll likely be at least a couple of months before it lands on Disney+.

Before that, you’ll find it available to rent or buy digitally shortly after it leaves theaters.
