Yellowstone fans are jumping in to defend “evil” Beth Dutton after a request was made for the character in Season 5 Part 2.

Since galloping its way to our screens in 2018, Yellowstone has been as prolific as it has been successful. Taylor Sheridan’s neo-Western series even managed to break its own record with the Season 5 premiere by attracting 12.1 million same-day viewers.

But that was in November 2022 – since then, there have been numerous issues, ranging from rumored off-screen drama between Sheridan and John Dutton star Kevin Costner to delays resulting from the Hollywood strikes, and the news that Yellowstone will now end after its fifth chapter

Thankfully, the Yellowstone world will continue through its various spinoffs, and it’s also attracting a whole new audience after CBS landed a rights deal and started airing the show from the start. But now, one viewer has taken issue with one of the lead characters, Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly).

Taking to Reddit, they wrote: “Please, God, make the writers give Beth her comeuppance or worse before the series ends. So evil, destructive, and filled with nothing but hate.”

As fans will well know, Beth – the only daughter of Dutton patriarch John – is a complex and strong-willed character, one who is highly intelligent, strategic, and unafraid to use manipulation to achieve her goals. Season 5 Part 1 saw her relationship with Jamie go from bad to worse – and now both of them have a target on their backs moving into Part 2.

Despite some of her questionable actions, Yellowstone fans have been protective of Beth, with many responding to the post to say that her past traumas contribute to how she is today.

“I actually love the character,” replied one. “It is such a shift to see an angry, mean Daddy’s girl. She does have these soft sides but super buried under all that trauma. Very complex character and the actress is fabulous.”

Another pointed out, “Even though she was blown up, beaten to a bloody pulp, and has the trauma from her childhood, you still want her to have her comeuppance? She’s definitely twisted, but I like her because she doesn’t take crap off anybody and she’s a badass.”

A third added, “Her soft side is loving her daddy and Rip. She is ‘hateful’ and ‘mean’ to protect what she loves. She has a huge fear of losing them and wants to do all she can to protect them after what happened with her mom. Beth’s character is perfect as is. Fierce, proud, loving to those who matter, and undeniably loyal.”

“I mean do you blame her? She watched her mother and was blamed by her mom right before she died that it was her fault,” commented a fourth, with a fifth writing, “I didn’t like her at first but she really grew on me. She’s so resilient.”

As for who will “win” out of the Jamie and Beth saga, we’ll just have to wait and see when Season 5 Part 2 arrives – November 2024, get it in the diary.
