Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai has officially revealed details on the future of Nintendo’s flagship fighter with the announcement of the second Fighters Pass.

With the first Fighters Pass now complete with the announcement of Fire Emblem’s Byleth joining the massive roster, many were eagerly awaiting what the future would hold. During the announcement, Sakurai discussed future content and stated that while he believed “one or two” additional fighters would suffice, even more than expected were in development.

“Fighters Pass Volume 2” will feature six new upcoming characters. Each character can be purchased individually as “Challenger Packs.” The formula is pretty much the same as the prior pass, but with one extra character.

This means that fans can still hope that popular favorites such as Halo’s Master Chief and Devil May Cry’s Dante still make the cut.

When can you pre-order Fighters Pass Volume 2?

Players will be able to pre-purchase the pass on January 28, 2020. It should be noted, that this is the same time that Byleth will be available for download.

Additionally, all Challenger Packs will be released by December 31, 2021, so Smash Ultimate should have quite a long life with future updates. Of course, that is just a placeholder date, so it’s possible all the fighters are released prior to that date.

Sakurai also stated that like the first Fighter Pass, the new additions have already been decided. The Byleth announcement video was filmed in November, so Nintendo has known for months what the six characters will be.

“Even if I receive many requests regarding potential candidates on Twitter, I’m afraid it will be very hard to consider them,” the series creator said.

Finally, if you pre-order the pass, players will gain access to a special Mii Swordfighter costume: The Ancient Soldier from The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild.

An Ancient Soldier Mii Swordfighter costume is an exclusive Fighters Pass bonus.

It’s unclear if like the first pass, all DLC fighters will come with a unique stage. We expect that information to be revealed once it is officially available for pre-order.

It will be interesting to see who the next fighters are and just what the future will hold after the second pass concludes. Will there be a Volume 3? Only time will tell.

Animal Crossing player’s crazy Smash Ultimate tournament venue goes viral

An Animal Crossing New Horizons player designed a brilliant Smash Ultimate tournament venue in-game, and many fans are absolutely loving it.

The global health crisis really hurt LAN events for Smash Ultimate and other fighting games in 2020. Many venues that thrived off hosting events suffered immensely, and while players have been missing in-person competitions, that didn’t stop one player from recreating a tournament venue within Animal Crossing.

Animal Crossing is chock full of materials and objects that work well to design a fighting game venue, and Redditor ‘timshady11’ made good use of them for their creation.

Anyone who has ever been to a weekly tournament at a bar, restaurant or arcade is familiar with the general layout. You have the front desk for signups and registration, numerous setups for people to compete and a spot designated for streaming high-profile matchups.

The Smash scene got a bit beaten up.

In this case, timshady11 included all of those things and then some. As you can see in the video, there is a desk area by the entrance with a laptop and Smash Ultimate book to keep track of tournament entrees.

Moving on from there, the venue has all sorts of desks with two chairs, a monitor and a Nintendo Switch. In total, we count six of these non-featured setups, which is a respectable number for a weekly event.

The venue also has numerous arcade cabinets, vending machines, booths, couches, and of course, a stream setup. That section is pretty well-made with cameras, a computer, and three couches in the vicinity for observers.

Users on Reddit were certainty impressed with the creation. “Awesome! The aesthetic is cozy and cool, really like the vibe overall,” one complimented.

“This is amazing! It made me really nostalgic for IRL tournaments tho,” another remarked with a frowny face emoji.

While Smash tournaments have been forced to move online, hopefully, players will get the opportunity to return to their venues in the foreseeable future and duke it out in person once again. Until then, at least there’s always the Animal Crossing island to tide us over.
