How long is Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

Elden Ring was an absolutely massive game with playthroughs that could take more than 80 hours. So, how long is Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC?

Elden Ring’s DLC has finally received a trailer and the Shadow of the Edrtree looks like a fittingly epic addition to the game. Excitement is off the charts and it looks like the best is yet to come.

Players have been scouring the trailer of the Elden Ring DLC for any details they can. Hoping to piece together the mystery of Messmer the Impaler or prepare for the Deathblight swamp.

One detail that many are hoping to learn is how much time they can expect to spend in the game’s new Land of Shadow area. Here’s what we know about how long the Elden Ring DLC will be.

Everything in Shadow of the Erdtree seems pretty big. Here’s hoping it’s a theme.

Hidetaka Miyazaki himself has said that Shadow of the Erdtree takes place in a new area “comparable, if not larger, than the area of Limgrave from the base game”. This large new area is known as the Land of Shadow and will require the player to teleport to get to.

The Land of Shadow is separate from the wider lands between and will have its own distinct map. In an interview with IGN, Miyazaki confirmed that the structure of this new area in Elden Ring’s DLC will be very similar to areas in the base game.

It will include “open field maps, with large scale legacy dungeons, and with small to medium scale legacies as well” according to Miyazaki. With such a massive breadth of content, you can expect to be spending quite a bit of time in the Land of Shadow. But how much?

How long will Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC be?

The exact length of the Elden Ring DLC has not yet been revealed. Of course, exact lengths for any video game campaign are always a little hard to pin down but there is room to speculate.

Much as Elden Ring is FromSoftware’s largest game to date, the developer has confirmed that Shadow of the Erdtree is their largest DLC. Originally intended to be two separate expansions, they were merged into one cohesive product.

Looking at Dark Souls 3, the Ashes of Ariendel DLC takes an estimated seven hours to complete in its entirety and the larger Ringed City DLC takes between 10 and 13 hours. Shadow of the Erdtree has been confirmed to be larger than both so we know the low estimate could potentially exceed these two combined.

Shadow of the Erdtree’s pricing also gives some indication as to what we can expect in terms of length and the amount of content. Elden Ring’s DLC comes in at $39.99 USD, nearly twice the launch price of Dark Souls 3’s Season Pass which included two expansions.

FromSoftware is known for its consumer-friendly practices and has a reputation for overdelivering on value. If Shadow of the Erdtree costs more than two Dark Souls DLCs, it’s because the developer thinks it’s more than worth the price.
