Just days out from the next major Destiny 2 update and information has slipped through the cracks early, revealing key details on the upcoming Season of the Chosen.

After weeks of speculation, we now have confirmation on Destiny 2’s next seasonal update. Season of the Chosen is the official name, according to leaked cover art from a since-deleted Game Informer tweet.

The artwork reveals a key focus on Cabal for the season ahead. A menacing figure appears towering in the background while a concerned Zavala looks off to the distance on what appears to be Nessus.

On top of this leaked image, the scrapped tweet also locked in a few details on what to expect from the upcoming season.

Here’s everything we have to go off ahead of an official reveal from Bungie.

Destiny 2 Season of the Chosen: Theme

Destiny 2 Season of the Chosen
A first look at Season of the Chosen artwork for Destiny 2.

Given the enormous figure in the artwork, it’s clear the season will focus on the Cabal. There’s no telling exactly who this particular character is, but it might be a Cabal that Zavala is tracking down.

‘Chosen’ is an intriguing name for the season as it also served as the title for the final base campaign mission in Destiny 2. The epic showdown with Dominus Ghaul capped off the main storyline and now three and half years later, we could finally be revisiting that thread.

Perhaps the Cabal know something about the Pyramid ships that we don’t.

Maybe Zavala is seeking to form an alliance with a new group of Cabal on Nessus. Only time will tell how the narrative unfolds but we know for certain that Cabal will play a key role in Destiny’s future.

Destiny 2 Season of the Chosen: New Content

Destiny 2 Season of the Chosen
A since-deleted post revealed key details on Destiny 2’s Season of the Chosen update.

In terms of fresh content with the seasonal update, we already know a few things thanks to the early leaks. First up, players can finally expect some additions to the Strike playlists.

Not only will multiple new Strikes be available this season, but some “returning favorites” will also be added to the mix, according to the leaks. Based on the wording, this means a minimum of four Strikes can be expected.

Not only that but Cabal forces appear to be taking over certain destinations. Described as “Cabal-filled battlegrounds,” this could point towards an all-new activity in a new area, or simply bite-sized Cabal gunfights in Patrol zones.

Either way, expect a heavy Cabal presence in Destiny 2 in the next season.

Destiny 2 Nessus gameplay
We could be spending a lot of time on Nessus in the near future.

On top of this leaked intel, we already know for certain that old rewards are returning, along with vendor updates, and plenty more.

Expect to see Season of the Chosen officially revealed in a matter of hours. We’ll be sure to update you as more information becomes available.

Destiny 2’s Season of the Chosen is set to begin on Tuesday, February 9, 2021.
