Call of Duty’s 2024 installment is fast approaching but will this year’s new iteration find its way to Game Pass subscribers? While not quite official, Xbox lead Phil Spencer has confirmed the studio’s plans.

After three years of trials and tribulations, Microsoft finally closed its purchase of Activision Blizzard at the tail end of 2023, a historic deal costing them $68.7 billion in total.

And while the previous acquisition of ZeniMax saw most of the publishing giant’s IP arrive on Game Pass right away, things have been a little different with Activision Blizzard. The first titles are only just now rolling out on the subscription service, with Diablo 4 making its way across on March 28.

Naturally, there has been plenty of speculation surrounding the status of Activision’s pride and joy, Call of Duty. Will the series find its way to Game Pass? Will new titles be available on day one? Will it kickstart with CoD 2024? Here’s what you need to know.

Is CoD 2024 coming to Game Pass?

Although not yet confirmed, it seems all but inevitable CoD 2024 will appear on Game Pass, eventually.

Phil Spencer recently clarified the ambitions of the Xbox team in this regard, assuring CoD fans the ‘intention’ is very much to put all Activision titles on Game Pass in due time.

“Our intent is the full portfolio of games from ZeniMax, Activision Blizzard, and Xbox Game Studios, will be on Game Pass,” Spencer said in an interview with Stephen Totilo.

However, as it’s still a few months from even being revealed, there was no specific mention of this year’s CoD release. Thus, the possibilities are still wide open for this one.

If Microsoft has its way and nails down plans in time, CoD 2024 could very well launch on Game Pass out of the gate. But if the company is unable to reach its goals, it may simply arrive later down the line.

Will CoD 2024 be on Game Pass on day one?

Should Microsoft stick to its plans, CoD 2024 would be a “day one” release on Game Pass, making it available right away for subscribers.

Much like recent hits such as Starfield and Forza Motorsport, many of Xbox’s biggest releases have been pushed on the subscription service day one, letting players enjoy the full games without technically paying the full price of a new release.

Following this trend is exactly what the company hopes to achieve with CoD, Spencer has confirmed.

“Our intent is the full portfolio of games from ZeniMax, Activision Blizzard, and Xbox Game Studios, will be on Game Pass, day one.”

CoD on Game Pass
CoD 2024 could make history as the first annual release to not break sales records, should it be available on Game Pass.

So for now, words are only one thing and as we’ve seen in the past, it’s worth taking these comments with a grain of salt. But should plans come to fruition, Game Pass subscribers should expect to see CoD 2024 available on day one. Though we’ll keep you posted right here with any further updates.
