So far, Young Sheldon Season 7 has been full of surprises, with a “favorite” character now set to make their return to the show.

Fans might think they know Sheldon Cooper’s origin story, but Young Sheldon continues to prove that the creators remain one step ahead. Not only has George’s affair finally been rumbled, but surprises continue to be added at every turn.

While the hour-long season finale won’t air until May 16, there’s plenty of ground left to cover leading up to the final goodbye.

One of the ways Young Sheldon Season 7 is looking to do this is through guest appearances, with one “favorite” character making their return much earlier than expected.

Young Sheldon Season 7 reveals return of “favorite” character

The promo for Episode 5 of Young Sheldon Season 7 reveals that Billy Sparks – a “favorite” character for fans – will be making his return to the series.

First introduced back in Season 1, Billy Sparks is one of the Coopers’ neighbors and is known for his positive – if slightly more unintelligent – personality. From giving a basket of eggs to Missy when she was sad to ignoring his entire birthday party in order to play weird games with Sheldon, Billy is almost an extension of the brood.

Billy was last seen in Season 6 but has so far yet to make an appearance in Season 7. However, all that’s set to change in Episode 5 of Young Sheldon Season 7, with Billy gearing up to throw a party with Missy in tow.

Originally tipped to be returning for the season finale, more details surrounding Billy’s involvement have yet to be revealed – but that doesn’t mean fans won’t already be pleased.

“Billy might be my favorite character,” one fan posted on Reddit. “When I first saw him I thought ‘Oh, he’s gonna be the local bully.’ But he turns out to be the sweetest boy ever. Often the jokes revolve around him being stupid, but the show still makes him so human: his mother is seriously worried about him, they acknowledge how difficult his situation is.

“He is never mean, no matter how rough he has it. It’s just so unusual to have a character like that, he’s very minor and it’s not like we spend a lot of time fleshing him out, but there’s just something about him.”

A second agreed: “He’s my son’s favorite character. Every single time he’s on screen he turns to me and says ‘I love Billy’.”

In The Big Bang Theory, Billy was quietly introduced as Sheldon’s bully, but Young Sheldon has clearly worked overtime to provide more context.

“I thought it was weird in TBBT Sheldon refers to Billy Sparks as his childhood bully, but he seems to have been nothing but nice to the Coopers. Who knows. Maybe he’ll end up going down another path after Brenda and Herschel’s divorce like Paige,” a third fan summed up.

Young Sheldon Season 7 continues on CBS until May 16, 2024. Catch up with plenty more great TV shows to stream this month here.
