Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory have taken their links to the next level, with Season 7 dropping a key Easter egg.

It might come as a surprise to some, but Young Sheldon is directly linked to 2007 sitcom, The Big Bang Theory. Exploring Sheldon Cooper’s childhood – with Jim Parsons serving as narrator – the 2017-launched series is a bonafide prequel.

In fact, the links have always been there. Not only has Young Sheldon referenced key storylines from previous episodes of TBBT, but it’s also set to include familiar faces as Season 7 draws to a close.

The latest episode of Young Sheldon Season 7 is no exception, dropping a key Big Bang Theory Easter egg to Sheldon’s story.

Episode 4 of Young Sheldon Season 7 has dropped a crucial Easter egg for The Big Bang Theory, hinting at how Sheldon became comfortable with having roommates.

As any TBBT fan will know, a key dynamic for the multi-cam sitcom is Sheldon’s living situation, spending Seasons 1-9 of the show with Leonard. This then sets him up for his eventual marriage to Amy, settling into wife life as best as he can.

There’s always been a question around how Sheldon became so comfortable with his group of friends, beginning the first season of Young Sheldon quite comfortable without any. In fact, he actively avoids having to make connections with anyone outside his immediate family. In time, this begins to change – thanks to people like Tam – but even then, hard boundaries are in place.

Young Sheldon Season 7 Episode 4 may provide an answer to this, showing Sheldon getting accustomed to his first roommate at college. Arriving back in Texas from Germany, Sheldon finds his room has been given to another student. After initially arguing, the pair bond over an unreleased video game – leading to even more new friends joining the party.

It’s a dynamic that Young Sheldon fans appreciate – alongside being crucial to Sheldon’s development – with some fans clearly wanting more.

“Season 6 or 7 should have a cameo from the Big Bang Theory,” one Redditor mused. “It would be pretty cool. Maybe they could have all meet and the reason they don’t remember each other is because they forgot. Because you’re most likely not going to remember a small thing that happened when you were a teen even if the people involved would become your friends as adults.”

“TBBT already has an episode of when they all meet. It takes place in 2003 when Leonard is looking for a roommate. Sheldon is 23 and Leonard is 24. It’s 4 years before the TBBT pilot,” another weighed in.

Young Sheldon Season 7 continues on CBS until May 16, 2024. Catch up with plenty more great TV shows to stream here.
