Korean Twitch streamer Velvet_7 broke down in tears during a broadcast on Tuesday, October 1, after receiving a third ban on her channel, only for it to be lifted an hour later by the platform.

The streamer has already had major issues with the platform, receiving an indefinite ban back in August for “sexually suggestive content,” something which she denied, explaining that she made sure she wore appropriate clothing and changed up the variety of her streams.

After five weeks, Twitch admitted that she had been banned by mistake and was reinstated, but for Velvet, the issues with her Twitch channel are seemingly ongoing, with her account taken down briefly on October 1.

In an emotional stream following the reinstatement of her channel, Velvet explained that the reason for her latest ban was for using hate speech.

“So I was streaming today, and I got banned for using a hateful slur,” she explained. “I didn’t know what that meant. I was talking about it on YouTube and suddenly I got unbanned from Twitch. I don’t know what’s going on.”

The shock and stress of the situation ultimately became too much for Velvet, who broke down in tears during her broadcast, after spending an hour uncertain if she would ever get her channel back, or what had led to its removal.

After calming down, Velvet explained why she was so upset by the ban, telling her stream: “The reason why I was panicking is because I was very, very sad and very, very confused about my suspension. I was very scared.”

The streamer continued: “Suddenly I got unbanned, I didn’t know if it was true or not, and I didn’t really do anything. I just try to do my best. I don’t talk about hate speech.”

For streamers, losing access to their channel means more than just no longer being able to broadcast to their viewers, but becomes a major issue for those who rely on the platform to earn a living.

Velvet admitted that during her five-week ban she received no payments from Twitch, and upon her return, she had lost almost all of her paid subscribers, leading to even more monetary issues.
