Destiny 2 servers DOWN on Shadowkeep release day – latest

Some players are reporting the issues have subsided.
We’re back! Destiny 2 were taken down around for emergency maintenance as Bungie works to have a smooth launch for Shadowkeep, and it’s not going according to plan as of yet.
October 1 is a big day for Destiny 2 as it represents a move to Steam and a free-to-play version, along with the release of the major expansion Shadowkeep.
The servers went down for a full day in preparation for the launch but it turns out that it wasn’t long enough as players are running into numerous issues.
Bungie announced they were taking the servers down on both Destiny 1 and 2 for emergency maintenance in an effort to find out the problems that are plaguing the two games.
“Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 are being taken offline for emergency maintenance,” said Bungie in a tweet. Please standby for updates.”

About a half-hour later they were able to update players with what was going on, but it definitely wasn’t what they wanted to hear as Bungie confirmed the issues were still ongoing.
“Emergency maintenance for Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 is still ongoing,” the Destiny developer said. “We apologize for the continued delay. Please stay tuned for updates on our progress.”

With cross-play and free-to-play all happening with Destiny 2 now, it’s very possible the servers just didn’t know how to handle the influx of new players.
Shadowkeep not only attracted veterans of the series but it also brought in a plethora of new fans with it. For updates on what’s going on with the servers, players are encouraged to stick with the Bungie Help Twitter page.
Destiny 2 released back in 2017 and since then has blossomed into one of the best looter shooters on the market.
