The automatic shotgun in Apex Legends, EVA-8, actually performs a bit better when it doesn't have a certain Hop-Up equipped, which certainly can't be how it's intended.
While the Peacekeeper reigns supreme in the shotgun battle in Apex Legends, if we're not counting the Mastiff, but the EVA-8 does still have its uses.
However, those uses might've just shrunk after players discovered the gun actually gets worse when you put the Double-Tap Hop-Up on it.
This Hop-Up is supposed to let loose two shots with one trigger pull, which it does do, but it will actually shoot slower than if there wasn't one. With the EVA-8 being fully automatic, you can hold the trigger down if you'd like you'll be dishing out more damage, in the long run, that way.
Reddit user Xilerian showcased this issue in a clip and tested the EVA-8 side-by-side with and without the Hop-Up. It's clear from the clip that there's some sort of problem with.
This isn't the first time this issue has been noticed, but we still don't know if this is actually working as intended. Respawn devs haven't yet addressed this, but if it continues to gain traction, it could end up being addressed in a future update.
If you want to see what Respawn are working on with Apex, you can check the Trello page and see what's in the pipeline.
Unfortunately, it hasn't popped up there as of yet so there's no telling how long it'll take for a fix if it's actually broken.
For the time being, it seems like players will want to avoid adding the Double Tap Hop-Up to the EVA-8 if they want to maximize their damage output. It's disappointing, but that's the situation we're looking at.
Sadly, it's looking like the EVA will remain a distant second to the Peacekeeper in the realm of shotguns in Apex Legends. Perhaps a fix down the road could help close the gap.
