Eminem is working on a documentary about superfans that has been aptly named Stans. A term that Eminem accidentally coined in the early 2000s.

Eminem is probably one of the most influential rappers of the last generation and he’s inspired a lot of fervor. You know you’re big when your Fortnite concert takes over Twitch.

Granted, Eminem was big before that, but his addition to the game had lifelong fans recreating music videos and movie scenes using his in-game skin. The rapper is such a draw, that even Adin Ross is offering Eminem $1 million to appear on his stream.

It doesn’t look like that will happen any time soon however as Variety reports that Eminem is working on a new project. He’ll be co-producing a documentary called Stans that focuses on the culture of super fandom.

Eminem’s Fortnite concert had over 3 million viewers on Twitch. That’s a lot of Stans.

The use of the term ‘Stan’ to describe rabid fanatics of a particular celebrity actually came about thanks to Eminem’s song of the same name, released in the year 2000. Eminem’s manager Paul Rosenberg and Stuart Parr (Get Rich or Die Tryin’) are sharing the financing with the rapper and they’ve outlined the vision for Stans.

“Stans will be the opportunity for us to turn the camera around and ask the audience about being fans — and in some cases, fanatics,” they explained. “This is a study of the relationship between fanbase and artist through the lens of one of Eminem’s most fascinating songs and one of the world’s most important entertainers.”

The documentary’s synopsis claims it will be a “revealing, edgy, and disarmingly personal journey into the world of superfandom, told through the lens of one of the world’s most iconic and enduring artists, Eminem, and the fans that worship him”.

Stans looks set to explore super fan culture by engaging with and interviewing “Eminem’s most extreme fans”. The rapper himself will also give input on camera.

The documentary will be distributed via Paramount and MTV thanks to previous partnerships with Eminem and Rosenberg. There’s no word on whether it will air on the Paramount+ streaming service.

It’s planned for release in 2024 but no official date has been set as of yet. We’ll be sure to bring more updates as the details emerge.
