Giovanni and Primal Kyogre Pokemon

A Pokemon Go player has shared the most effective ways for dealing with Giovanni from Team Rocket and his fancy Shadow Kyogre.

Pokemon Go is plagued by Team Rocket Grunts, who hang out at PokeStops and hassle trainers. You can also face the three Leaders of Team Rocket, who pose a much greater threat, with stronger teams and a tendency to use their Protect Shields in battle.

The ultimate Team Rocket challenge is Giovanni, the organization’s leader in the mainline games, who brings powerful Pokemon to bear against the player. Unfortunately, his team line-up is changed occasionally, ensuring players must bring different Pokemon to defeat him.

In his current line-up throughout the Taken Treasures Event, Giovanni first uses Persian, followed by Nidoking, Garchomp, or Rhyperior. His final member is always a powerful Shadow Kyogre, which packs a mighty punch, being a shadow-infused Legendary Pokemon with a high CP.

These are the best ways to beat Giovanni & Shadow Kyogre

A user on the Pokemon Go Reddit has shared their advice for defeating Giovanni’s team and his potent Shadow Kyogre. Fortunately, players have a few options for defeating Giovanni’s line-up in Taken Treasures.

For Persian, the best options are Cobalion with Double Kick + Sacred Sword, Lucario with Counter + Power Up Punch, or Annihilape with Counter + Night Slash. These moves are chosen to allow the player to quickly throw out Charged Attacks, forcing Giovanni to burn through his Protect Shields

Regardless of whether Giovanni uses Nidoking, Garchomp, or Rhyperior, the player can use an Ice-type Pokemon to exploit their weaknesses. To this end, a Mamoswine with Powder Snow + Avalanche, Walrein with Powder Snow + Icicle Spear, or Sneasal with Ice Shard + Avalanche will do the job.

Finally, there’s the mighty Shadow Kyogre. To deal with this, the player needs a powerful Grass-type Pokemon. Those who don’t have access to a Legendary can still win with Venusaur with Vine Whip + Frenzy Plant, Mega Sceptile with Bullet Seed + Leaf Blade, or Chesnaught with Vine Whip + Frenzy Plant.

Most of these Pokemon are fairly easy to acquire and train through regular gameplay. This means Giovanni can be taken down with a little legwork from the player, with a specially made anti-Team Rocket party.
