Niantic are seemingly attempting to rerun the failed Abra Community Day from March.
The first attempt failed due to the current global health crisis which left Niantic little option but to postpone it. Now, it looks they’re ready to give it a second shot.
According to the folks behind PokeMiners, the Abra Community Day will take place on April 25. Unsurprisingly, this falls on a Saturday, but the exact time or what the event will entail isn’t clear.
Ticketed research found
We do know that the event will include some form of ticketed special research. “A ticket to access the Investigating Illusions bonus Special Research for Abra Community Day on April 25, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time, wherever you are. Details can be found in the in-game News,” the description of the event stated.
Now, whether this special research is the entire event or that it’s just part of the main Community Day remains to be seen. Niantic are in a bit of a predicament as they’d want to give the postponed Community Day another try.
To Community Day or not?
Pushing forward with the Community Day will encourage trainers to go outside, and that is the last thing Niantic want to be seen doing right now.
If the normal Community Day does go ahead, then we can expect to see spawns increased even more than usual. There will likely be other ways to incentivize play from home, too.
The original attempt, which would have been the March Community Day, would have had 3x Catch XP and the customary three-hour lures for its bonuses. We don’t know whether these will change.
With the event supposedly only a couple of weeks away an announcement could be right around the corner. This information does come from a datamine, which means it has been found in the Pokemon Go code but not talked about in any official capacity.

As a result, and as you all probably already know, this means it is subject to change and Niantic may opt to do something different anyway.
