Thanks to the way Pokemon Scarlet & Violet handle random encounters—being that trainers can now see monsters freely roaming around the overworld—Shiny hunting has fundamentally changed.
Now that wild Pokemon spawn in clusters in the overworld in Generation 9, players who Shiny hunt have had to adapt when snagging these sparkly monsters.
While many trainers enjoy this new method of hunting, some situations can leave fans frustrated. This is exactly what happened to one trainer who struggled to nab a Shiny Beldum next to a precarious cliff.

A post on the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet subreddit shared the frustrating Shiny encounter in a thread titled, “This cluster had me absolutely screaming my head off.”
The trainer attached a video clip of the encounter, that showed them stumbling upon a cluster of Beldum. Amid the pack, they spot a Shiny, silver Beldum and beeline for it.
Unfortunately, thanks to the dense swarm of Beldums the trainer is continuously thwarted in their attempts to snag the Shiny.
The OP explained, “Honestly tried taking my time approaching that Beldum and it quickly turned into a slippery slope.”
Many fans in the comments expressed their love-hate relationships with the overworld encounters present in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.
“That’s exactly how I lost a shiny Falinks,” said one player. “They keep running away and when they see you, they stick around and their weird hitbox is a pain to escape from.”
Another trainer said, “I know people complain about this happening all the time (i don’t like it too) but I think it’s kinda funny that we got a version of wild Pokemon unexpectedly running out at you even in a game with only overworld encounters.”
Thankfully, the video ends with the OP tracking down and catching the Shiny Beldum, despite its best attempts to flee. Clips like this just show that although Shiny hunting may be different in Gen 9, it’s still just as stressful as it always was.
