Blizzard appears to have revealed the next Overwatch hero.

A recent tweet from the Overwatch twitter account reveals “the champion”, which appears to be a literal Hamster in a spherical battle-mech.

This will be the game’s 28th hero, and the seventh new addition since the original launch in May 2016.

No details beyond the tweet have been announced. The use of a mech perhaps indicates a new tank of some kind, as many had anticipated anyway, and the teaser shows it to have turret-like blasters similar to those of the D.Va mech and the ability to roll for quicker movement.

Although no name has been officially revealed, this would appear to be the same “champion” depicted in a poster of “Wrecking Ball”, found in Junkertown. Whether or not “Wrecking Ball” will be its actual hero name remains to be seen. It also remains very possible that this is in fact Hammond, formerly of Horizon Lunar Colony.

Overwatch is a game that features many fantastic elements, some of which have a slightly tongue-in-cheek element to them, but this seems to be the most ridiculous that Blizzard has actually put in the game.

Blizzard has previously revealed considering a “jetpack cat” hero, however, which they originally canned as going a bit too far towards the ridiculous. This new hero does appear to follow a similar fundamental concept though – that of a relatively harmless animal empowered by over-the-top technology.
