Queen of Tears star Kim Soo-hyun explains K-drama’s unique love story

The K-drama Queen of Tears is one of the most anticipated among fans in 2024. It’s a storyline developed by Crash Landing on You writer Park Ji-eun. With Park’s already incredibly established career under her belt, fans are eager to watch another love story.
Queen of Tears takes romance to a different level as Hae-in and Hyun-woo are already married. Hae-in is the cold chaebol heir of Queen’s Group and runs the department store. Meanwhile, her husband Hyun-woo is bubbly, kind, and a legal director.
Their marriage hits rocky terrain, with Hyun-woo considering divorce. They soon venture into company and family politics, and their own journey of self-discovery and love. Actor Kim Soo-hyun details their love story in an exclusive interview with Dexerto for Queen of Tears.
Queen of Tears has a rocky marriage romance
Kim Soo-hyun plays the role of Hea-in, his hometown’s pride and joy who works for Queen’s Group and is married to Hae-in. Per the trailer, he appears to be carefree, not worried about prestige and with no problem expressing his emotions.
But his marriage is anything but smooth sailing. You can see him trying to be the devoted husband, even giving Hae-in flowers for their anniversary. But she couldn’t care less and she makes him nervous in their marriage. He begins to contemplate divorce, but flashbacks reveal they were once in love.
In an interview with Dexerto, actor Kim gave his two cents on how to see Hae-in and Hyun-woo’s relationship.
“‘Not knowing what’s on eachothers mind’ would be a somewhat literary description of their
relationship,” said the actor.
The teasers for the K-drama explore how the two grew up in different social classes, with Hyun-woo having a caring and affectionate family compared to her high-class one. By all accounts, they are complete opposites in their views on life and love.
Actor Kim Ji-won chimed in, “I couldn’t agree more with what Soo-hyun said. Hyun-woo and Hae-in live together, but in a way, they don’t have the faintest idea about each other. In that sense, they are both the closest but furthest from each other. Although they are supposed to know each other better than anyone, they know the least about each other – or at least, they start out that way. I think Soo-hyun gave
a very accurate description of their relationship.”
Queen of Tears will surely be a K-drama to watch unfold as it will hit some major tropes that will bring the two characters together – from Hae-in seeing her husband in a new light to him learning about her past trauma.
