Actor Kim Soo-hyun stars in Netflix’s Queen of Tears – adding to his credited list of K-dramas in his career that fans have praised him for.

Queen of Tears centers on an already married couple high on the totem pole of wealth for Queen’s Group. Baek Hyun-woo (Kim) comes from a small village and becomes their pride and joy when becoming the legal director for Queen’s Group.

It just so happens he’s also married to the family’s chaebol daughter. But their marriage is on rocky terms which leads to reevaluation their relationship and possibly falling in love again. It’s a K-drama fans are excited for. In his career, Kim has had many notable roles that fans adore.

He’s appeared in multiple genres from romance, and historical, to a thrilling crime storyline. Fans also remember him for his special appearance in Hotel Del Luna and Crash Landing on You. Here are some of his best K-dramas.

Moon Embracing the Sun

Based on a novel of the same name, a fictional king falls in love with a shaman amid the many conspiracies and plots for political power.

In Moon Embracing the Sun, Kim Soo-hyun takes on the role of the fictional King Lee Hwon. The narrative commences with the Queen Dowager orchestrating the assassination of her stepson to secure her own son’s ascent to the throne. A-ri, a shaman, witnesses the murder and finds refuge with the pregnant wife of the palace’s Chief Scholar.

Despite A-ri’s vow to protect the child, she is discovered and killed. Years later, the child, Heo Yeon-woo, falls in love with Lee Hwon and is destined to become the future queen. However, the Queen Dowager intervenes, orchestrating a scheme to make it appear as though the princess has died. Unbeknownst to all, Yeon-woo is alive but has lost her memories, leading her to live a life as a shaman.

Fate reunites her with Lee Hwon, igniting his quest to uncover the truth behind his beloved’s supposed demise and Shaman Wol.

My Love from the Star

One of Kim Soo-hyun’s claims to fame among K-drama fans is My Love from the Star. The fantasy romantic comedy focuses on an alien who landed on Earth in 1609. Ever since he has kept his good looks and youth while possessing the abilities of speed, eyesight, strength, and seeing the future.

His time on Earth has led Min Joo to have a cynical stance on love, seeing it as something of greed and lust. But everything changes when he meets actor Cheon Song-yi .

One Ordinary Day

One Ordinary Day’s storyline will appear familiar as it’s based on the British crime television series Criminal Justice. Kim Soo-hyun stars in the K-drama as Kim Hyun-soo, a college student with straight A’s. One night, he plans to go out with his friends and takes his father’s taxi.

When a mysterious woman gets into the taxi, it changes everything. They spend the night together with Hyun-soo waking up to learn she’s dead. He soon becomes the prime suspect in her murder despite his insistence that he’s innocent. The only people on his side are a lowly attorney named Shin Joong Han (Cha Seung-won) and a criminal kingpin.

It’s Okay to Not Be Okay

A famed yet anti-social children’s book author gets entangled with a psychiatric nurse and his brother. Starting a journey of self-healing and love.

Moon Gang-tae and his brother deal with the murder of their mother as children. Ever since, Gang-tae has been the guardian of his older brother and worked multiple jobs as a nurse. He now works as a caregiver at Ok Psychiatric Hospital.

He soon meets Ko Moon-young (Seo Yea-ji), a children’s book author believed to have an antisocial personality disorder. She becomes enamored by him and pursues a romantic interest in him. But like any good K-drama, their pasts filled with darkness are intertwined.

It’s Okay to Not Be Okay was praised for its themes of mental health, love, and healing. The K-drama was the first to be nominated for an International Emmy and one of Netflix’s best originals.
