On Netflix’s roster for 2024 is the K-drama Parasyte: The Grey, which has a storyline that is already familiar to anime and manga fans – and the official teaser it building excitement.

K-drama fans will have a busy year with Netflix releasing a plethora of new and returning content. Parasyte: The Grey has piqued particular interest and has been in development for some time. The K-drama’s storyline is a new live-action series of Hitoshi Iwaaki’s acclaimed manga Parasyte.

This isn’t the first time his illustrated storyline has been adapted for a live-action. Two movies were made in 2014 and 2015, with an official anime titled Parasyte: The Maxim. Parasyte: The Grey will follow a similar storyline of extraterrestrial entities arriving on Earth.

They plan to take over the human race and use their bodies with sinister intentions. It will star a female lead who cohabitates with her parasite, a brother looking for his sister, and a soldier wanting to kill them all. Parasyte: The Grey has original anime fans hopeful of its success.

Anime fans can’t wait to watch Parasyte: The Grey K-drama

Parasyte: The Grey has a lot to live up to, having already seen success as a manga and anime, but the official first teaser has fans excited it has taken its own spin on the storyline.

In the original manga and anime, the lead character is a 17-year-old male high school student named Shinichi Izumi. For the K-drama, the lead character is Jung Su-in (Jeon So-nee), who gets infected with a parasite but it fails to take over her brain and they co-live together.

The official first teaser for Parasyte: The Grey reveals the parasite’s goals of utter chaos and takeover on Earth. But even they sense Su-in is different as her parasite helps fight others off and still manifests outside of herself. The trailer is full of intrigue, and fans are looking forward to it.

“Dude! This looks EPIC!! Pumped up for this one!,” exclaimed one fan on X/Twitter.

“Ooooh if it’s a spin-off I like it even more,” said another.

Another fan praised the K-drama’s ability to adapt its own version, writing: “Oh wow… I’m actually so hyped they’re doing something different in the same universe and not just adapt the same story again.”

“Definitely one of my favorite animes, can’t want to see it,” said one fan of the original anime.

Fans have nothing but praise, as another commented, “I’m so hyped for this movie; especially since Parasyte is my 2nd Favorite Manga/Anime of all time! The Two-Part Parasyte Movie that released in 2014 was FIRE as well.”

Parasyte: The Grey will be released on Netflix on April 5, 2024. Until then, you can find out about more Netflix 2024 K-dramas like Chicken Nugget and its soon-to-be-released Midnight Photo Studio.
