Genshin Impact fans love Xianyun but there’s one major problem
HoYoverseGenshin Impact players have highlighted one major problem with Xianyun, warning the community before they pull on her banner.
Xianyun (Cloud Retainer) is the latest 5-star character to join Genshin Impact’s ever-growing roster. Her banner was added to the game as part of the 4.4 update, which saw the release of Gaming, Chenyue Vale, Ganyu, Shenhe, and Xingqiu skins.
Despite the initial hype around Xianyun and players enjoying both her design and gameplay, Travelers are now discovering that there’s a major problem with her kit. Not only does it impact her combat effectiveness, but it can lead to some rather frustrating deaths.

HoYoversePosting on the official Genshin Impact Reddit page, one player showcased how Xianyun Elemental Skill can end up auto-targeting random enemies. During the clip, Xianyun is shown hopping around the environment, darting up a path before beelining towards a Hilichurl hiding behind an explosive barrel.
Within seconds Xinayun collided with the explosive, instantly killing her and leaving the player stunned. Well, it turns out that Xianyun’s auto-targeting issue isn’t just a one-off, as others in the Genshin Impact community have highlighted similar situations.
“When I was playing around in the trial domain, her skill auto-targeted her off the edge of the domain,” responded one Traveler.
Others were keen to highlight how comical the clip is. “Lmao hell nah I’d be pissed off too, the fact that it completely ignored the enemies and went straight to the barrel,” replied one commenter.
“I’d be wheezing my ass off. Just straight up bird brain angry bird time. Xianyun suddenly had the instinctual urge to fly into a barrel at high speeds,” joked another.
Meanwhile, one player likened the clip to an iconic Pokemon attack. “Cloud Retainer used Brave Bird! It’s super effective! The wild Hilichurl fainted! Cloud Retainer was damaged by the recoil!”
Despite the jokes, many Genshin Impact players highlighted how frustrating Xianyun’s auto-targeting can be, with one player noting how it likely won’t get fixed.
“Don’t expect Hoyo to fix this either, they didn’t resolve any of Dehya’s issues,” commented one frustrated player. “It makes no sense to this day why there isn’t any disable for auto-targeting. I understand it’s required for mobile, who cares, let me disable it on PC. I’m so sick of stuff like this not being addressed, I knew as soon as I stepped into the trial there would be huge issues with the character mechanically.”
Whether HoYoverse will address Xianyun’s auto-targeting in a future update remains to be seen, but for now, you may want to be a little more cautious when using her Elemental Skill.
