Fortnite’s New “Llama Bell” Emote Pays Homage to Legendary Comedy Sketch

Ross Deason

The new “Llama Bell” emote for Fortnite Battle Royale is quite possibly the most Fortnite-ish addition to the game you’ll ever see.

The emote, which went live on August 20, sums up the “not-so-serious” side of Fortnite that originally separated it from its competitors in the battle royale genre and made it appeal to just about every audience.

The Llama Bell shouldn’t be as entertaining as it is but it immediately captured the imagination of players around the world and some even started to recognize it from something they had seen in the past.

If you’re one of those people, you might know that “Llama Bell” is paying homage to Will Ferrell’s hilarious cowbell dancing in the famous Saturday Night Live “More Cowbell” sketch that aired way back in April of 2000!

If you didn’t get your hands on the catchy new emote on August 20, you’re out of luck for the time being as the 800 V-Buck item is no longer available in the item shop.

However, if the initial response of the Fortnite community, including big personalities like Ninja and Tfue, is anything to go by, Llama Bell’s popularity will likely mean that it returns in the near future.

It’s strange to think that simple things like emotes and the various other Fortnite cosmetics were so instrumental in the game’s meteoric rise in popularity but the fact that they have been cannot be denied.

All you have to do is look at the revenue generated from the free-to-play title to know that the in-game sales of items (that don’t give any competitive advantage, by the way) are through the roof!
