The Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury bout may still be in the cards but the latter’s father dispelled the latest rumors of the anticipated boxing fight that painted a grim outlook for the event.
The Problem Child and the up-and-coming Fury brother have been itching to find their way to the squared circle for some time now. Though they were initially set to duke it out in December 2021, Fury pulled out with an undisclosed medical condition at the time two weeks before the date.
Ever since, the YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul has been waiting for his chance to lace up the mitts against Fury, though word of contract stalls reportedly kept the event on ice.
Some of those rumors were said to come from Tommy Fury’s dad, John Fury, who has since come out swinging to downplay his involvement in any such talks.
Fury Senior didn’t mince words when expressing how he feels about Paul and made it clear that he has no part to play in his son’s potential fight against the American.
“People mentioning me saying there’s negotiations in place for Tommy to fight this clown overseas,” he said, “that’s not true. I’m having nothing to do with this at all. It’s a pile of sh*t.
“Don’t like anybody associated with those people over there. They’re nothing but a pack of tossers, Youtubers, and I’m not interested in it in any way, shape, or form… I want nothing to do with this farce at all. Not now, not ever.”
This comes on the heels of reports that the Tommy vs Jake fight had hit a snag to get “over the line” and there were a “couple of major factors” to iron out before the two could set a date.
While that may be true, Tommy’s father says he won’t have his influence over the negotiations in any manner.
It remains unclear when we’ll ever get a Paul vs Fury card, but there have been signs that the fight could happen relatively soon after Jake’s August event.
