Player cap for Call of Duty’s Blackout battle royale mode could go well above 100
Treyarch Studio Design Director David Vonderhaar has revealed that the maximum player count in Call of Duty’s new Blackout battle royale mode could be increase above 100.
When the topic of the player cap was brought up in an interview with GameInformer, Vonderhaar said that the development team was considering eventually raising the number to 115.
The number was specifically chosen since it has a significance in the Black Ops universe, having been referenced several times in previous titles of the series.
Vonderhaar revealed that the 115 player count would not be immediately implemented, but rather first tried out during special, limited time in-game events.
He was also noncommittal to a final player count for the mode’s launch, explaining that Treyarch were still testing out different numbers based on data and feedback.
When the private beta of Blackout was launched on September 10, the player cap was set to 80, which was increased to 88 after a few days.
During the last few hours of the beta, the number was increased to 100, which essentially allowed Treyarch to learn new information about what they needed to adjust to stabilize the game ahead of its full release.
The Blackout battle royale mode will be released as part of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on October 12.
