Shroud explains how Respawn could improve “terrible” Apex Legends LTMs

Playing Apex Legends for the first time since the launch of the Holo-Day Bash Christmas event, superstar streamer Michael ‘shroud’ Grzesiek shared negative opinions about Respawn Entertainment’s Limited Time Modes and outlined how those modes could be considerably improved.

Unlike earlier in 2019, when he was streaming Apex Legends most of the time, shroud hadn’t been on the popular battle royale game for a few weeks, and instead focused on Escape from Tarkov and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

However, a day after saying that the game “doesn’t sound appealing,” the former CSGO pro decided to test the Apex waters again and experience the new Holo-Day Bash in-game event for the very first time.

Of course, part of that event is the new Winter Express LTM, which was the first thing he jumped into, even though he said “this sounds awful” when reading the description. That was a foreshadowing of things to come, as it’s safe to say the Mixer star did not enjoy the new mode at all.

“Ok this is a game mode that I’m not going to play after this,” he said firmly.

“This game mode seems questionable. This is going to be a one and done for sure. This game mode’s… something. I feel like they could have thought of a much more festive game mode than this.”

Shroud says Apex’s LTMs “need work”

As it turns out, shroud’s opinion on Winter Express  is actually a microcosm of how he feels about Apex Legends Limited Time Modes overall.

“Yeah their LTMs need work,” he said. “Their LTMs aren’t that great. So far, their LTMs have been just like – you play one round of it to see what it is and then you’re like ‘alright, this is dumb,’ and then you start playing it.”

“LTMs are hard though, it’s hard to perfect LTMs,” he went on. “Solos and Duos are probably their best LTMs. Their Halloween LTM was terrible, this Christmas one is pretty bad.”

How shroud would improve Apex’s LTMs

Shroud went on to brainstorm some of the ways that Respawn Entertainment can improve their Limited Time Modes, the process starting with a change in the approach.

“I think how they should do their LTMs is completely change the game,” he explained. “I think they’re trying too much to stay as Apex in their LTM. What they need to do is turn it into a different game, not Apex with a different goal. It should be something completely different.”

He even went as far as to even make one up on the spot, giving an example of the kinds of avenues that the developers should pursue with future modes.

“So here’s an example – you know what would be a good LTM?” he offered. “Take Apex’s movement and turn it into a death-run. Done. It’s like a race – first person to get past the death-run, RNG, f**king crazy sh*t’s going on, first person to get through the death-run wins”

There’s no doubt a lot of players would agree with shroud’s remark about the Solos and Duos LTMs being best, with those two playlists the player-base’s most requested feature, and the most well-received once Respawn obliged players’ requests

However, a lot of them have also taken a liking to this new Winter Express LTM as well, some even suggesting that its success proves Apex needs a permanent close-quarters combat mode.

That said, shroud usually knows what he’s talking about when sharing suggestions about games, so it might server Respawn well to heed his advice.
