Apple TVA new documentary about the super models of the 1980s is heading to Apple TV – this is everything we know about the series, from release date and trailer, to which stars are involved.
The so-called super models blazed a trail through the fashion world in the late 1980s, and on into the 1990s, changing the industry, and becoming household names in the process.
The Super Models is a four-part series that documents their journey, featuring interviews with the subjects as well as those who were there.
It’s directed by Academy Award-winner Roger Ross Williams and Larissa Bills, with the following everything we know about the show.

The Super Models is released on Apple TV on September 20, 2023.
Ron Howard and Brian Grazer produce the series through their company, Imagine Documentaries.

It’s clear that the filmmakers had unprecedented access to their subjects. While George Michael’s ‘Freedom 90’ is used on the soundtrack, the video for which cemented their positions as the world’s most important fashion models.
The Super Models cast: Who’s it it?
Lots of models can lay claim to being super, but the new Apple documentary focuses on four of the greats:
- Naomi Campbell
- Cindy Crawford
- Linda Evangelista
- Christy Turlington
Meaning the doc seemingly doesn’t feature their fellow super models Claudia Schiffer, Tyra Banks, Elle Macpherson, Kate Moss, or Helena Christensen.
What is The Super Models about?
Here’s the official synopsis for the documentary: “The Super Models travels back to the 1980s, when four women from different corners of the world united in New York. Already forces in their own right, the gravitas they achieved by coming together transcended the industry itself.
“Their prestige was so extraordinary that it enabled the four to supersede the brands they showcased, making the names Naomi, Cindy, Linda and Christy as prominent as the designers who styled them.
“Today, the four supermodels remain on the frontlines of culture through activism, philanthropy and business prowess. As the fashion industry continues to redefine itself — and women’s roles within it — this is the ultimate story of power and how four women came together to claim it, paving the way for those to follow.”
