Star Wars The Acolyte release date: When’s it coming out?

The Acolyte will premiere on Disney Plus on June 4, 2024.

The news was confirmed by Star Wars’ Twitter/X account on March 18.

Filming began in October 2022 but production was hit by delays due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes. It’s a little later than first expected, but we’ve not got long to wait now.

Star Wars The Acolyte plot: What’s it about?

Star Wars: The Acolyte takes place over a century before the events of The Phantom Menace, in the final days of the High Republic era, and will be a Sith-led story.

Ian McDiarmid as Emperor Palpatine

The Acolyte is a “mystery-thriller” set during the High Republic’s final era. The story follows a former Padawan who reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate crimes. As they delve deeper into the case, they discover that the forces they’re fighting are more sinister than anticipated, dragging them deeper into a galaxy of secrets and emerging Sith.

Given the timeframe and focus of the show, there’s been heavy speculation amongst the Star Wars community that The Acolyte will feature an appearance from Emperor Palpatine’s Master, Darth Plagueis.

In Star Wars lore, Darth Plagueis is a Sith Lord who can prevent death and even create life. Darth Plagueis meets his demise after he’s killed in his sleep by Palpatine, who then takes on the mantle of Sith Master.

Star Wars The Acolyte cast: Who’s in it?

The Acolyte cast features exciting talent like Carrie-Anne Moss of The Matrix, Dafne Keen from Logan, and Manny Jacinto from The Good Place.

The Acolyte cast list:

  • Lee Jung-jae as Sol
  • Manny Jacinto as Qimir
  • Carrie-Anne Moss as Indara
  • Dafne Keen as Jecki Lon
  • Amandla Stenberg as Mae
  • Jodie Turner-Smith as Mother Aniseya
  • Rebecca Henderson as Vernestra Rwoh
  • Charlie Barnett as Yord Fandar
  • Dean-Charles Chapman
  • Margarita Levieva
  • Joonas Suotamo as Kelnacca
  • Amy Tsang
  • Abigail Thorn as Ensign Eurus

Amandla Stenberg has a prominent role as Mae. Stenberg is one of Hollywood’s biggest up-and-coming talents and is heavily featured in the trailer, looking extremely cool we have to say (Maybe the dark side has some points?).

Joonas Suotamo as Kelnacca is another awesome addition, as he plays a Wookie Jedi Master.

Star Wars The Acolyte trailers: Is there a trailer?

The first The Acolyte trailer was released on March 19, 2024.

The trailer impressed us, showing off a different tone from other Star Wars series we’ve seen. We’re digging the vibe, and hope it’s better than some of the middling stories that have been told on Disney Plus so far.

A second trailer followed on May 4 (Star Wars Day):

In the lead-up to release, two clips showcasing The Acolyte’s martial arts action have dropped. The first featured Sol and Mae in a duel and showed off how The Acolyte will focus on the Force and hand-to-hand combat.

The second is a more in-depth look at Carrie Anne-Moss’ character in her own fight with Mae. It’s our first clear look at Anne-Moss’ Indara in a fight and shows off just how competent a fighter she is.
