During a recent press conference, Griselda actress and executive producer Sofia Vergara revealed that her injuries from shooting were so impactful, doctors said she was “crazy.”

Vergara made subtle yet drastic changes to her appearance in order to turn herself into the Colombian drug lord, leading to some ongoing health issues.

“I was trying to change as much as I could without looking like I was in a Halloween costume,” Sofia Vergara explained. “I would wear a bra that was minimizing me, holding my butt so that it wouldn’t move. I put myself in a body position for six months leading to one of the only times that I didn’t go to work. I’d get up in the morning and I couldn’t get up.

“I was a 50-year-old doing this weird position, walking hunched over, smoking,” she continued. “And the doctor is like, ‘You’re crazy. You can’t do that at your age.’ They injected me. Now I think I have a problem from walking like that. It was worth it. I probably won’t be saying that in 10 years. But now I have to be very careful. I have to go to physical therapy every once in a while because if I forget about it, it comes back.”

Vergara also commented that she didn’t want to be seen as her Modern Family character, Gloria Pritchard. She appeared on the show for 11 seasons from 2009-2020.

“The most important thing for me was to disappear. Sofia to disappear, Gloria from Modern Family to disappear. I didn’t want people to think it was Gloria with a fake nose,” Vergara added.

“It took us a lot of tests to try out different ways. I was nervous about it because I sometimes watch movies and it distracts me a lot to see the wig that’s jumping out. So I wanted her to look human and also to be able to act with all those things that I had on. I had fake teeth, I had plastic all over my face, my eyebrows were fake. Even my nose was fake.”

The star additionally recounted that she postponed working on Griselda because of her commitments to Modern Family. While appearing on the sitcom, Vergara was nominated for Golden Globes, SAG awards, and Primetime Emmys.
