Scarlet Witch getting a solo movie? Elizabeth Olsen coy on Wanda Maximoff’s MCU future

Josh Tyler

In a new interview, the Scarlet Witch herself, Elizabeth Olsen, teased her potential future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Since Wanda Maximoff entered the MCU in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ she has risen from a lesser-known hero to one of the most popular Avengers.

Elizabeth Olsen has made no secret that she’s enjoyed delving into the Scarlet Witch character, who has been through the emotional ringer during the events of ‘Age of Ultron,’ ‘Infinity War,’ ‘Endgame,’ and ‘Wandavision.’

But after the events of ‘Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ there have been a lot of questions from fans as to whether Olsen might be able to return as the Scarlet Witch. For her part, Olsen is quite tight-lipped about that future.

Warning, spoilers for Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness below…

Could the Scarlet Witch return in the MCU?

Wanda Maximoff could return.

‘Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ ends with Wanda destroying the original copy of the Darkhold and the temple atop Mount Wundargore. She appears to kill herself in the process, thus concluding Maximoff’s story.

However, in true Marvel fashion, we the viewers never actually see Wanda’s body, which leaves open the possibility that she could have survived the destruction.

In addition, many fans have pointed out that, thanks to Dr. Strange and America Chavez’s multiverse-hopping, there now exists another Wanda in universe 838 that was possessed by the 616 Wanda. It’s possible that, if Olsen were to return, it would be as this 838 Wanda – who has her sons Billy and Tommy, but also killed the Illuminati under 616’s Wanda’s control – seeking to rectify her life after it was turned upside down.

Elizabeth Olsen remains coy about future

Elizabeth Olsen could return as the villainous Scarlet Witch.

On June 29, Elizabeth Olsen went on Good Morning America to ask some fan questions. One of the first questions was about Olsen’s potential future in the MCU.

The actress responded, “I would love to know myself. So…keep spreading rumors and maybe they’ll hire me again.”

This answer seems to indicate that Olsen is done with Marvel for the foreseeable future, but it’s also possible that she is misleading the audience as other Marvel actors have in the past.

Despite her coy response, Marvel producer Richie Palmer called Wanda Maximoff the “jewel in the crown” of MCU Phase 4 and there have been rumors that a Scarlet Witch solo movie could be in the works.

Whatever the case may be, fans have made it clear that they are looking forward to the next appearance of Wanda Maximoff.
