New Deadpool 3 photo points to pivotal Logan retcon

Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in Logan

Deadpool 3’s Ryan Reynolds just shared a set photo that hints the upcoming sequel will reference – or even change – a key scene in 2017’s Logan.

Deadpool 3 already boasts one obvious link to that film: Logan himself, Hugh Jackman. The Aussie actor has come out of superhero retirement to portray the fan-favorite character, better known as Wolverine.

The in-universe mechanics underpinning Jackman’s comeback are still a mystery. All fans know for certain is that Deadpool 3 treats Logan as canon, despite the sequel itself making the jump to the MCU.

Whether the third Deadpool outing will directly revisit any of Logan’s events is likewise shrouded in secrecy – but Reynolds’ set photo suggests that it may do exactly that.

Deadpool 3 set photo points to pivotal Logan retcon

Reynolds posted the pic as a Story on Instagram. It shows two chairs emblazoned with the names Logan and Wade Wilson (the civilian alter-ego of Reynolds’ Deadpool) in front of a cornfield. Although the setting isn’t identified, it resembles the Munson farm in Logan.

Of course, this could simply be a coincidence. However, it’s also possible that the farm – where evil Wolverine clone X-24 slaughters the Munsons and Patrick Stewart’s Professor X – is where Deadpool 3’s Wolverine hails from. And if so, this could rewrite that film’s timeline.

Assuming Wade Wilson somehow shows up to recruit Logan before or during X-24’s attack, it could mean the Munsons and Professor X’s lives are spared. Alternatively, Wade whisking Wolvie away could lead to the death of his daughter, Laura, at X-23’s claws.

That said, Jackman previously insisted that Deadpool 3 would leave Logan’s ending untouched. So, if Wolverine is indeed plucked from the farm, the knock-on effects of this will presumably be minor.

Deadpool 3’s major X-Men connections confirmed

Either way, Deadpool 3 running back Logan’s Munson farm scene is speculation for now. Some of the movie’s other ties to the legacy X-franchise are already confirmed, though. Notably, unauthorized set photos have revealed that X-Men villains Toad and Sabretooth will show up in Deadpool 3.

Other unofficial snaps also indicate the possibility of crossovers between Deadpool 3 and the wider MCU. Notably, Captain America: The First Avenger antagonist Red Skull was seemingly spotted on set in December 2023.
