Hugh Jackman is hoped to return as Wolverine in Avengers: Secret Wars – but the star is rumored to have one condition to reprise his iconic role one more time.

Jackman first rocked the adamantium claws in 2000’s X-Men, quickly becoming the most beloved character of the big-screen mutant lineup next to Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier.

While his movies haven’t always been critical darlings (*cough* X-Men: Origins *cough*), the star’s portrayal of the character has been steadfastly praised and held dear by fans. His tenure culminated in Logan, 2017’s R-rated, hack-and-slash neo-noir that gave Wolverine one of the greatest superhero send-offs in movie history.

However, it wasn’t truly a goodbye, as he’ll return in Deadpool 3 – and, if Marvel gets its way, we’ll see him again in the biggest Avengers movie of them all: Secret Wars.

Hugh Jackman rumored to have one condition for Secret Wars

Jackman’s involvement in Avengers: Secret Wars has been one of the movie’s longest-running rumors, with insiders claiming he’ll return as Wolverine – and it may even be a lead role.

However, according to scooper, MyTimeToShineHello: “Hugh Jackman told Marvel he will return for Secret Wars but only if he’ll get to interact with Tobey and RDJ.”

As always, this should be taken with a massive pinch of salt, considering Secret Wars is more than three years away. However, it echoes past reports: the same scooper claimed Jackman’s hero would “meet and fight alongside” Maguire’s Spidey, while CanWeGetSomeToast alleged Wolverine won’t be recast in the MCU until after Jackman’s final performance in Secret Wars.

Prior to the WGA and SGA strikes in 2023, Jackman reportedly had a meeting with Kevin Feige to discuss Wolverine’s role in the film, as per Daniel Richtman.

Obviously, nothing has been confirmed so far. The movie doesn’t even have a director yet, but Sam Raimi has been floated as a possible contender. In the meantime, you can check out everything else we know about Avengers: Secret Wars.
