Leaks have surfaced featuring the performance of the Nvidia RTX 4080 Super. However, don’t get too excited, as it’s not expected to be much of an upgrade compared to its predecessor.

Look, the RTX 4070 Super came out swinging, but that might have been the best launch in the lineup of GPUs that Nvidia announced at CES 2024. The RTX 4070 Ti Super does offer some minor performance improvements, and the RTX 4080 Super is poised to do the same, according to leaked benchmarks.

While we’re still testing the RTX 4070 Ti Super, current indications show that it’s not too much of an upgrade over the standard model, and the line between the RTX 4080 and its newer sibling might even be smaller. Nvidia claims there’s a 4-5% difference in performance between the two GPUs, and leaked benchmarks, courtesy of Benchleaks on Twitter / X appear to indicate a similar story.

The leaked benchmarks surfaced on Geekbench, where three tests were performed.

However, the Vulkan score here appears to be erroneous, so you might not want to use that as any guideline. We’ve seen OpenCL scores improve by around 5%, and the same can be said of the CUDA score, too. So, they’re well within Nvidia’s claimed performance uplift.

Of course, these synthetic benchmarks are merely a guideline and are not representative of the actual performance of the GPU, so just sit tight until we get a better picture of what the RTX 4080 Super can offer. Just don’t hold your breath for any miracles, as it’s a very small upgrade compared to what we’ve seen before. It’s no RTX 4090, that’s clear enough to see already.

Nvidia’s RTX 4080 Super is expected to launch next week, where we should have a better idea of gaming performance, and it will mark the last of the first RTX 40-Super graphics cards.
