With a brand-new gasket mount and Akko fairy silent switches, the Akko Sailor Moon Limited Edition 5087B v2 is a dream for both anime fans and silent-keyboard lovers.

With anime finally within the mainstream media zeitgeist, it’s unsurprising its influence over the years has spilled into the world of keyboards. Its inspiration can be found in some of the most gorgeous custom PC builds, and even within official collaborations as seen with the Asus ROG Eva 02 PC and accessories.

That influence is more than felt when it comes to this Sailor Moon Limited Edition 5087B v2 keyboard by Akko. The brand behind this adorable peripheral is more than known for its official anime collaborations, with the likes of Dragon Ball Z and Demon Slayer getting their own gorgeous-looking accessories.

With almost picture-perfect theming, dazzling customizable RGB lighting effects, and the ability to work with several devices via both a wired and wireless connection, the Sailor Moon Limited Edition 5087B v2 keyboard cements Akko’s place in creating some of the best mechanical keyboards. Yet is this adorable keyboard worthy of its Sailor Moon theming, or is it all looks and no substance?

Design

The look of the Sailor Moon Limited Edition Keyboard by Akko is where it shines the most. The pink anime-inspired keyboard oozes cuteness in every shape and form. The keyboard predominantly comes in a light-pink colorway, being offset by its darker pink function keys.

As an officially-licensed keyboard, it features iconic imagery associated with the quintessential anime series. This keyboard in particular is specifically is inspired by everybody’s favorite Sailor Moon cats, Luna and Artemis.

Luna’s cute purple face has been printed on the ESC key while Artemis can be found smiling away on the key reserved to bring up the Windows calculator. To keep in with the purrfect theming, the arrows on the directional keys have been replaced by a series of pink pawprints, and Sailor Moon’s iconic bow is reserved for the Enter key.

While the design is adorable, it may be more subtle than the most hardcore anime fans would prefer. From a distance, the Sailor Moon Crystal 5087B v2 keyboard could appear as a run-of-the-mill pink keyboard. However, as a long-standing Sailor Moon fan, and someone who prefers a more subtle approach to licensed merch, it’s ideal.

Features

The TKL keyboard comes packaged with a white USB-C cable, as well as five extra Akko Fairy switches, and two matching light-purple tooks for swapping out the keys.

Unlike most gaming keyboards, aside from the Razer BlackWidow V4 75%, the Akko 5087B v2 is equipped with a gasket mount placed between the plate and the PCB. This design is intended for a more “flexible and cushioned experience” when typing away, and it’s apparent the second you take the keyboard out for a spin.

The TKL keyboard features an array of RGB that shines in between the dye-sub PBT OEM profile keycaps. With it being a pink keyboard, the RGB can clash. Not every color of the rainbow matches the cute and cozy aesthetic the keyboard is going for.

However, the lighting from under the keys, and the two RGB strips found on either side of the keyboard can be customized with the Akko Cloud Driver software. A plethora of lighting effects are available to choose from, too.

The Akko Cloud Driver software can sadly be slow, with loading times being present between every lighting mode change, but it’s worth it to get the full functionality of the keyboard. Better yet, community-created custom lighting effects can be shared and downloaded through the software.

The back of the stunning keyboard is where you can find a small switch which is what enables it to connect with Windows, Mac, or through a USB-C connection. Here is also where you can find the two pop-out legs, which add a total of three levels of adjustment.

Performance

The Akko 5087B v2 is one of the quietest keyboards I’ve had the pleasure of using, which is only further bolstered by the Akko Fairy silent switches. Whether it was writing up articles during the day, or typing away while playing far too many hours of Wedding Witch on Steam, the keyboard barely made a peep.

The linear Akko Fairy switches of the keyboard feel incredibly comfortable to use, with the ideal amount of bounce to every keystroke. However, they do require a little extra force when typing. Going from optical switches to the Akko Fairy switches did take time for my muscle memory to acclimatize too, and even now I still run into a few unwanted key presses.

The only main hindrance with the Sailor Moon Crystal 5087B v2 keyboard came down to the matt finish on both the keycaps and the gasket mount. While the PBT dye meant it easily withstood wear and tear, it did collect an fair amount of dust and pet dander.

Price

The Sailor Moon Crystal Akko 5087B v2 keyboard costs $99.99, which includes the use of the Akko Fairy silent switches.

For an officially licensed keyboard, that can be used wired or wirelessly, and features a range of customizable RGB lighting effects, that price feels more than reasonable. Especially when compared to big brands like Asus or Corsair.

Licensed peripherals typically don’t come cheap, but the Sailor Moon Crystal Akko 5087B v2 MSRP is a bargain when you consider just how feature-packed it all is.

Should you buy it?

Just like the Sailor Moon Crystal reboot anime series the keyboard is based on, the Akko Sailor Moon Limited Edition Keyboard won’t be for everyone.

Its Sailor Moon theming may be more subtle than the other anime collaborations in the Akko lineup, but its bright-pink colorway will only suit a specific type of PC gaming setup.

That being said, the Sailor Moon theming shines just as equally as the top-of-the-line quality from the TKL keyboard. Through sustained use, the PBT-dye sub keycaps look just as they did out of the box, and the almost completely silent Akko Fairy switches and build make this ideal for those put off by the disruptive sound of loud gaming keyboards.

The Verdict: 4/5

The Sailor Moon Limited Edition 5087B v2 keyboard is a testament to why Akko is highly regarded by fans of both gaming and enthusiast keyboards alike. Sailor Moon and anime fans owe it to themselves to add this gorgeously themed, and pleasant-to-the-touch keyboard to their gaming setup.
