Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s new patch finally resolves issues introduced in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are infamous for their shoddy state at launch, with a litany of glitches and performance issues that led to widespread mockery from fans and the press alike.

The negative attention did little to deter people from buying the Gen 9 Pokemon games, as they’re among the best-selling entries in the series. Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are hardly the first games with a rocky launch, which were later saved by updates.

Many of the issues with Pokemon Scarlet & Violet still remain, but the next patch finally has a release date, with the goal of resolving problems that appeared in The Indigo Disk DLC, some of which already have temporary fixes.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Ver. 3.0.1 patch notes

The Ver. 3.0.1 patch for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet was originally released on February 1, 2024. It was originally meant to be released in late January, but The Pokemon Company announced on Twitter/X that it had to be pushed back slightly. These are the full list of changes in the patch:

Bug Fixes

  • If the player used items to level up an Inkay to Lv. 29 or lower, the game would stop responding to button input. This bug has been fixed.
  • Some materials needed to craft TM223 (Metal Sound) were previously dropped by a Pokémon that appears in only one version of the game. This issue has been resolved. Shieldon Claws are no longer required to craft TM223 (Metal Sound).
  • After players installed the Item Printer in the League Club Room, under certain circumstances, players could get stuck between the Item Printer and the wall. This bug has been fixed. Affected players can now get unstuck by speaking to the character next to the Item Printer and selecting “I want to print something!”
  • When a Pokémon under the effect of Dragon Cheer was switched out of battle and then reentered that battle, its attacks would still have a heightened chance of landing critical hits. This bug has been fixed.
  • Certain moves that Calyrex could learn via TM only while united with Glastrier or Spectrier would remain in Calyrex’s move set even after Calyrex separated from Glastrier or Spectrier. Furthermore, even if those moves were forgotten, Calyrex could then remember those moves without being united with Glastrier or Spectrier. This bug has been fixed.
  • Other select bug fixes have been implemented.

Even before the patch came out, we knew about the unobtainable TM in Pokemon Scarlet and how it was in line to be fixed, as people who own that game cannot acquire Shieldon Claws to make the Metal Sound TM.

The more important issue involves both games, as the Dragon Cheer issue is a big priority. Dragon Cheer is a new buffing move introduced in The Indigo Disk, which is overpowered, as its effect lingers after the Pokemon is switched. Dragon Cheer’s power is meant to fade when the Pokemon is returned to their Poke Ball.

Dragon Cheer is currently banned in competitive formats, as it’s far stronger than its original intention. The Pokemon Scarlet & Violet patch fixed Dragon Cheer, aligning it with similar buffing moves used by other Pokemon.

There haven’t been any notable fixes to the performance in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, but these glitches were a more pressing problem, especially the one involving Dragon Cheer, due to how if affected online battles.
