MTG Fallout Liberty Prime Mech punch

The Brotherhood of Steel’s secret weapon is yours to deploy when MTG’s Universes Beyond: Fallout Commander decks hit the shelves.

Mtg Universes Beyond: Fallout is taking the best of the franchise and translating it into excellent card design. Iconic characters and stories are rife in this MTG x Fallout crossover, and now one of the Fallout games’ biggest – quite literally – setpieces is getting the TCG treatment.

Liberty Prime is a colossal war mech, a ridiculously over-the-top culmination of military might and propaganda. Liberty Prime is a perfect example of Fallout’s tricky, fleshed-out worldbuilding; straddling the line between serious stories and satirical wit. This colossal metal warrior is a beloved part of the games as a result, and it’s already seeing similar approval in Universes Beyond: Fallout.

Liberty Prime: Artifacts and Energy

Liberty Prime is a phenomenal new Artifact Creature in Jeskai colors (red, white, and blue, an excellent joke.) Artifacts are one of the game’s best-received card types, thanks to consistent new support, power cards like The One Ring, and on-theme precons like the Urza’s Iron Alliance Commander deck

In addition to being an Artifact, Liberty Prime, Recharged brings back the energy counters mechanic from Kaladesh. Energy counters are an additional resource that does not deplete when steps, phases, or even turns end. These counters can be regularly spent to activate effects, or stockpiled in order to save up for a big push.

How Liberty Prime, Recharged works in MTG

Liberty Prime is an 8/8 Artifact Creature with Vigilance, Trample, and haste, costing 2URW (two generic mana, one blue, one red, and one white.) Liberty Prime can start swinging for huge, hard-to-avoid damage the second it hits the field and still serves as an excellent blocker for opponents’ creatures.

The only downside here is that Liberty Prime, Recharged requires a cost to remain active. The Creature must be sacrificed every time it attacks or blocks unless two energy counters are paid per instance of an attack or block.

Thankfully, this Creature comes with an inbuilt way to restock your energy reserves. By paying two generic mana, tapping Liberty Prime, and sacrificing an artifact, you may gain two energy counters and draw a card.

Fans react to Liberty Prime in MTG

Liberty Prime, Recharged was clearly the right choice to kick off this wave of Universes Beyond: Fallout spoilers. Fans are already raving about the card, and the tongue-in-cheek tone struck by its flavor text “democracy is nonnegotiable” is making Prime a hit all over again, a perfect occurrence just as Helldivers 2 is striking the same tone.

Over on Reddit, user Kyleometers was quick to heap praise on the reveal of Liberty Prime, Recharged, saying:

“Literally my only request was granted”.

Other commenters like SkritzTwoFace were quick to jump in with their own appreciation for the card’s mechanics:

“So with vigilance, the idea is to attack/block, then activate him with the trigger on the stack if you don’t have the energy? Neat.”

Liberty Prime, Recharged is undoubtedly one of the best and most exciting new cards to launch with MTG Universes Beyond: Fallout. The set is almost ready to drop on March 8. It won’t be long to wait before players can get their hands on Liberty Prime through the Science! Deck.
