Fortnite players rejoice as "OP" Snipers finally nerfed in patch 28.10

Patch 28.10 introduces nerfs to snipers in Fortnite, and players are sharing positive feedback on the changes.

Since the launch of Chapter 5 Season 1, snipers have been a hot topic in the Fortnite community. This season, the Reaper Sniper was introduced, boasting high damage and a three-round magazine making it fairly forgiving to use while it provides a high chance to one-shot enemies.

There’s also the new weapon modification system, allowing players to customize snipers to their liking, making it even harder to identify a sniper. Needless to say, players have been clamoring for nerfs and changes for what feels like forever.

After a long wait, partially due to the holiday break, Fortnite patch 28.10 introduces long-awaited nerfs to snipers.

Fortnite players react to sniper nerf

According to the official patch notes list: “The Reaper Sniper Rifle has received a slight reduction in bullet speed (and an increase in bullet drop), as many Reaper snipes were too easy to land with little counterplay.”

Fortnite analyst BoopNL_ demonstrated the changes in a clip shared to his Twitter/X account, with his feelings summed up with a simple “W.”

As mentioned, sniper nerfs have been a long time coming, with modes like Zero Build almost unplayable due to no counterplay to snipers. One player reiterated that sentiment: “Zero Builds might actually be playable again,” with others agreeing.

Of course, not everyone was a fan of the changes to snipers. “That sucks. I like the Sniper as it was. I definitely don’t like this nerf,” one player reflected. Another said: “They’re just taking the fun out of everything.”

Fortnite isn’t the only game going through the motions of balancing snipers, with Warzone facing its fair share of criticism in that regard. Yet, this change to snipers was needed, and something that will definitely make modes like Zero Build a much fairer mode to participate in.
