In One Piece Chapter 1106, we’ll look into what the world’s smartest man declares about Luffy as the tide turns.

As the Egghead Island arc in One Piece continues to blow us away with outstanding edge-of-your-seat moments with every page turn, the smartest man in the world, Dr. Vegapunk, may have revealed Luffy’s destiny after seemingly confirming what was previously suggested at best. The contender for pirate king may have more than a Straw Hat crown in his future

The most One Piece does in terms of “destiny” in storytelling is a few subtle hints here and there and the history of wherever the Straw Hat crew ends up on their adventures, where they often become the saviors of the inhabitants of the islands they visit. That liberating attitude may be second nature for Luffy, as Dr. Vegapunk declares. Spoilers for Chapter 1106 ahead!

What’s happening in One Piece Chapter 1106?

Luffy’s quick meal has done the trick in helping him recover from fighting. Dr. Vegapunk reveals to Jewelry Bonney that since the Pacifista are robotic clones of Bartholomew Kuma, Vegapunk can’t stand the idea of Bonney being hurt by someone who even resembles her kindhearted father and put in a failsafe when Bonney is the top authority on commanding the Pacifista.

As the mechanical soldiers change sides, Kizaru reluctantly steps in to take Bonney and Kuma out painlessly and is met with the Gear 5 fist of Luffy charging in, knocking the admiral down and making all of Egghead Island shake as he revs up for a fight.

As the chapter comes to an optimistic close, we finally see who the mysterious arrival is on Egghead Island; it’s the giants from Little Garden, Dorry, and Broggy, who were last seen with Shanks attacking Eustass Kid’s crew. Referring to Luffy as the “Sun God,” as Vegapunk also states.

Vegapunk calls Luffy “Sun God Nika” in One Piece chapter 1106

After Saint Saturn attacks Vegapunk and Luffy creates some space going Gear 5, Vegapunk tells Bonney that Luffy is, in fact, the “Sun God Nika” Bartholomew Kuma has always looked up to. A warrior of liberation who would free the oppressed and put a smile on everyone’s face sounds a lot like Luffy, doesn’t it? Vegapunk thinks so, too, and we’d be inclined to believe the smartest man in the world.

It’s a wonder how Vegapunk and Jewelry Bonney had yet to see Gear 5 in action with all the fighting going on between Luffy, Rob Lucci, and Kizaru. Regardless, the pair, along with Kuma, finally see the Sun God’s powers in action since Luffy’s Devil Fruit’s true identity has been revealed to us as the “Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika” instead of the Gum-Gum Fruit he knows it to be.

One Piece didn’t rely on prophecy or destiny as an element of storytelling until characters of legend “Nika” and “Joy Boy” were pulled into the fray. With many characters, most of the note, including Vegapunk – the world’s most intelligent man and Zunesha – the Zou-carrying giant elephant who knew Joy Boy a long time ago, referring to Luffy as such, so his destiny could be coming into play as we continue into the final saga.

Despite his actions stating otherwise, Luffy has never wanted to take on the role of “hero,” as per his comments on Fish-Man Island. However, what he thinks a hero is and does is up for debate as his concerns with being a hero are often juvenile, such as how much he’d need to share his meat.

We’ll leave you thinking there as the excitement ramps up on Egghead Island. Could you imagine Luffy embracing this idea of becoming “Nika,” a hero to those needing liberation? Most signs point to no, as he simply would want to continue his adventure. Either way, we’ll have to wait and see what happens in the next exciting chapter of One Piece.
