Robert Picardo plays Sheldon’s professor in Germany, introduced in Young Sheldon Season 7 Episode 2.

Titled ‘A Roulette Wheel and a Piano Playing Dog,’ Picardo’s character is instrumental in making Sheldon realize something essential – in order to learn, he needs to listen.

The professor calls Sheldon out in class for being behind the rest of his peers, who each hail from elite universities across the world. He then suggests that Sheldon needs tutoring in order to catch up – something which the genius Cooper doesn’t take incredibly well. As a result, Sheldon is tutored by a girl much younger than him, much to Mary’s amusement.

Before his time on Young Sheldon, Robert Picardo was best known for his role in Star Trek: Voyager, alongside appearances in China Beach, Gremlins 2, and Innerspace.

However, his biggest role to date presents an interesting connection to the Sheldon-verse, who is widely known for his love of the Star Trek franchise. Despite this, it’s been pointed out by some fans that Voyager is his least favorite of the bunch, perhaps subconsciously why he’s butting heads with his professor.

Fans noticed this link way before the episode, with one posting on X/Twitter: “Robert Picardo will appear in next week’s episode of Young Sheldon. I haven’t watched a lot of The Big Bang Theory, but I think he is the first actor from Star Trek Voyager who appeared in this franchise. Big Bang Theory is too TOS and TNG centric from what I have seen.”
