Now that George Cooper Snr.’s death has been officially confirmed by creators, it might appear sooner in Young Sheldon than first thought.

Young Sheldon Season 7 is partway through its final hurrah, and a variety of storylines are still left to be answered. Sheldon and Mary are set to deal with a new set of problems after arriving back in Texas, while Missy treads a fine line with her new boyfriend Taylor.

One storyline that fans are trying to forget is on the horizon is the death of Sheldon’s father George. Thanks to The Big Bang Theory, we already knew it was coming, but Young Sheldon creators have since confirmed the plot’s inclusion.

While some fans think George’s death should be held off until the finale, a new promo hints that it could be happening a lot sooner than first thought.

Thanks to a new promo for Young Sheldon Season 7 Episode 4 – due to air tonight – fans think George’s death could be as soon in the series as this week.

The speculation links back to the reason why Sheldon knocks on a closed door three times. Initially, it’s explained that Sheldon does this after a run-in with George and an alleged other woman in his bedroom – though fans now think these accusations might be baseless on account of his childhood memory. In its place, some are beginning to wonder if the three knocks seen in the clip signal the death of his father instead.

“Maybe it’s his father dead, doesn’t he die sometime around now according to BB?” one fan mused over on Reddit. “Honestly some episodes in TBBT he says 14 and in some he says 15, at this point I don’t even know anymore lol,” added another.

It’s these inconsistencies in details that have left many feeling as though adult Sheldon is an unreliable narrator. Having said that, the jury is still out on what Sheldon will find behind the door in the next installment.

One fan suggests: “How about this for a twist — when Mary returns from Germany, she and George decide to spice up their relationship a little, so they have an encounter where Mary wears a wig. And when Sheldon opens that door, he mistakenly assumes his dad is with another woman.”

Another states: “Or this could be a ploy by the network/producers to make us think something is gonna happen and it turns out to be a nothing burger.”

Young Sheldon Season 7 continues on CBS until May 16, 2024. Catch up with plenty more great TV shows to stream here.
