X-Men star snubbed Deadpool 3 for surprising reason

Deadpool & Wolverine is rumored to be filled with cameos, but X-Men star Vinnie Jones won’t be appearing in the film formerly known as Deadpool 3, for a surprising reason.

Vinnie Jones made his celluloid name in gangster movies for Guy Ritchie, stealing scenes in the likes of Lock, Stock and Snatch.

The former footballer then hit Hollywood, and appeared in the likes of Swordfish and Gone in 60 Seconds, before being cast as Juggernaut in X-Men: The Last Stand.

That wasn’t a happy experience for the actor – scroll down for more on that – but it did mean he was asked to reprise the part in crossover movie Deadpool & Wolverine. An offer he refused, for an unexpected reason…

X-Men star snubbed Deadpool 3 for surprising reason

“Funnily enough I just got asked to do Deadpool,” Vinnie Jones tells Yahoo. “I spoke to the director and I just said it’s such a drama putting that suit on mentally and physically.

“It had its mental toll as well because you’re in it and you can’t do anything all day, you can only drink through a straw. So we couldn’t strike the deal for Deadpool [& Wolverine].”

“But Deadpool’s my favorite movie of all f***ing time more or less. I really wanted to do it, but they didn’t have the budget to put me in the suit.”

Why X-Men: The Last Stand was a “shambles”

Matthew Vaughn was the director who initially cast Vinnie in X-Men: The Last Stand, but then left the project, with Brett Ratner taking his place. A substitution that didn’t work for Jones.

“The new director came on and it was not the same role as I had signed on to do,” he explains. “They diluted the dialogue… The director brought in so many moving parts and so many other actors that mine got diluted. I lost all interest quite early because I knew they were just taking me along… I was very upset, really. It was such a big stage and I became an extra, that’s what happened.”

“I was going in and going, ‘Where is all my dialogue? Where is the storyline?’ For me it was shambles and it was a shame.”

Vinnie Jones is currently appearing The Gentleman, which we called a banger here. Check out even more TV to stream this month here.
